So what will happen? Well, if I was Putin I would apologise profusely, say how appalling it is that some rogues have grabbed this vile stuff (which, incidentally, we are no longer making and strongly disapprove of) and that peace loving Russia will track down the culprits and deal with them. Then I would grab a couple of sex offenders, get them to admit to poisoning with stolen nerve agents because their brothers died because of his treachery, and shoot them. The world will complain about capital punishment.

Meanwhile May will issue threats and make statesmanlike noises about not wanting the innocent to suffer through not seeing the World Cup, send Putin a fiver to make sure England wins, tell him not to mention it, give him our mutual friend Donald's love and get on dealing with Brexit.

Meanwhile the White Rabbit keeps saying he's late, he's late...

But as long as it keeps giving the media headlines, who cares?

Yes Alice in Wonderland all the way I agree....let's all admit it and move to the Mad Hatter's tea party of rapprochement... I'm no May fan but. WTF can she actually do ?

There's a lot she could do; such as ignore this stupid media storm (hey; two attempted murders, nothing else) and get on with running the country; change the law on sex claim evidence; tell the police to concentrate on more important matters (like terrorism, of which these attempted murders are a part); scrap Brexit; boost trade; straighten out the NHS...

Two other poisoning incidents were reported last week, one involving the death of a Spanish TV producer in a London hotel room, the other the death of an elderly man in Ireland. In reality, carbon-monoxide poisoning is more commonplace than nerve-gas poisoning. But these stories never seem to fire up the passions and emotions in quite the same way as a story involving spies, Russia, political intrigue and conspiracy theories.

Editors brief hacks - BRING SEX INTO IT! I'm astonished - no, shocked - that there doesn't yet seem to be a sex angle to the Salisbury story. Surely Ted Heath, who once lived there, must now be accused of buggering Russian spies?
