The punishment meted out to Ms Reilly has nothing to do with a risk to society and everything to do with the discrimination and persecution of a sexual minority group by an unholy hypocritical UK government and judiciary.

as Peter points out..the UK, USA (and Australia ) have now participated since 2001..waged and caused deadly wars in which 10,000s of children have been killed as "collateral damage".

The sanctions on Iraq before the removal of Saddam are said to have caused the deaths of over one million children...accepted as "necessary" by the West.

While they pay lip service to reports of children dying in Syria.

Every day..every single day..over 20,000 children die from easily preventable causes like disease that have been eliminated in the West.

We don't give a stuff except for the occasional hand-wringing.

As Stalin reputedly said.."A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic."

Much of the populace in the UK & USA are led by the nose by hyperventilating tabloid media creating non-existent problems.

This decision had nothing to do with caring for children..more a reaction to the drubbing they would have received by the media (including the Times)

It's also morally wrong as it punishes 2 people for a non-existent crime..one who has apparently paid their price legally and the other..for friendship???
