Ant & Dec - the end? 6 Years, 1 Month ago
Any arrested on drink-driving charge after collision ... is this the end?

Will the public see this as "one episode to many"?

Obviously still fighting it. Be interesting to see what he blew .
You need to be squeaky clean to do what they do and DD is really not a thing to be just glazed over.

This week's "Takeaway" show is scrapped - as he returns to "treatment".

This is THE END !

Sadly quite possible. These days people are dropped long before any prosecution. You seem to be delighted by this ITK. The strangest things give you pleasure.

You never typed a truer word JK - especially the misfortune of others...

Not delighted at all ... just reflecting on the fact that the higher they climb the harder they fall.
(and its usually self-inflicted)

(I was at the first PJ & Duncan gig ... in Rochdale (c 1993?), and toured with the duo several times).

This puts ITV in a real quandary ... they have built too much of their "entertainment" (I hardly ever watch ITV) around the pair.

Its no more self inflicted than chicken pox is.
Nobody would actively choose to be drugged up and out of control.

They should get Noel Edmonds to stand-in as host of Saturday Night Takeaway, re-name it Noel's House Party and, like when that bloke got out of the shower in Dallas, pretend the past few years were just a dream. Then ITV can concentrate on ripping off more BBC shows so Andrew's vital tax can be diverted away from the TV licence and redirected to fund more ammunition for the troops and anything else the public never complain about.

I'm quite fascinated by their success. What they do they do EXTREMELY well, but they don't actually do that much. It's a kind of sleight of hand. They're not really a 'proper' double act in the traditional sense. They don't really do 'routines'. What they do is present, with a bit extra here and there. On I'm a Celeb they just link the clips. They do it really, really well, but it's hardly a performance. They present Cowell's crap shows, which a couple of monkeys could do (there's an idea, Simon, and it's free - you don't even have to steal it!). And they do their Saturday gig, which again, if you strip it down, is basically another set of links and maybe the odd 'prank'. That's it. In the cold light of day, it's astonishing they have been showered with awards for THAT. As I said, they do it very well, but it puts into perspective the paucity of talent around on TV these days. Dec is a delightful person, one of the nicest and most decent people in showbiz, so I hope all goes well for his sake.

Dec will limp on (with the last 2 shws in the series) Pru ... but after that?

They may not do much - but have earned around £70 million doing it !

Dec alone - would be like Laurel, without Hardy. Wise without Morecambe. Costello without Abbott. Cannon without Ball.

It just wouldn't work - and will not even be contemplated. New presenter(s) are ubiquitous, and the series is virtually over.

ITV feeling sorry for the duo - and protecting their contract and investment, at the same time!

Ant will get his payment - and a combination of medical people and TV moguls will dictate what happens next.

Paradoxically, Corrie actors - for example - have not been treated so generously for lesser (and one-off) misdeameanors, dangerous behaviour and unprofessional activities.

Simply, a commercial decision - and a short term one, for the moment...

As JK says, they are charming. But what else is there?

Take Morecambe and Wise - incredibly popular (and Eric had a talent that neither Ant nor Dec could dream of possessing), but they also had talent, they DID things, for years and years, and barely got an award. Imagine the Andre Previn routine, then contrast it with what Ant and Dec did...er...when?

Ant and Dec - they actually got BAFTA...for standing around. It's a bit mind-boggling.

Even Ernie Wise could work after Morecambe - he'd been a child star at 13.

What background do Ant and/or Dec have? Standing in front of a camera, basically.

Can anyone recall, unforced, an Ant and Dec routine??? In the 20+ years they've been at the top???

Think about that.

As I said, sleight of hand. I don't wish them ill at all. But they've had a charmed joint career.

No reputable advertisers would buy advertisement space when their show is on.

ITV are struggling getting viewers with thEuropean horse racing telecasts, they spent a fortune on them, Sky are planning to buy them now.
