I expect the complaints are a good reason to get rid of it. Any old nutter or business rival can write anything they like on Facebook and trip adviser.

Wetherspoons are not perfect - but, when you arrive in a new UK location, they can be very convenient.

Usually with a town/city centre location - ideal for coffee and scrambled eggs on toast.

The quality is as good as anywhere - and the wall will have a pictorial history of the location.

Nearly 1,000 pubs now, and the most successful pub group.

Trying to open in Dorking at the moment, against strong opposition.

And with the diminishing number of public conveniences in our towns and cities - Wetherspoons, like McDonald's, allow all to use their facilities.

You don't have to be a customer - and can just walk in - and go to the toilet area, which to maximise the usage of retail space is usually not on the ground floor.

Hygiene standards are high, and users will not be questioned or approached. Handy to know, particularly now in London's West End.

Where many underground/footpath conveniences have become trendy shops, cafes and sandwich bars!

I think they are a very good chain for both food and drink. Their beer and wine prices are much better than most other chains, you are not paying for fancy surroundings, just basic, but comfortable surroundings.

Obviously you won't be getting fine dining food, but it is pretty good by pub standards, and much better than most fast food chains in my opinion.

You can get a meal with a drink for under a tenner, there are very few sit down pubs or restaurants where you can do this.

Why is the food always cold or overcooked in the pubs I have been ?

Personally I rather spend the extra to go a restaurant.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience of Wetherspoons. There are 100s of branches in the uk, and the few that I have had experience of have been good, but each pub is different. The wetherspoons in Guildford is the biggest pub in Europe. Its unfortunate that you seemed to have it upon the ones that aren't up to standard. I imagine that JK doesn't even know what Wetherspoons is and only does fine dining restaurants.

I don't know why, but I haven't had that problem. Its always been satisfactory, I'm sorry that you have had bad experiences. Also you can get a glass of wine for for £3, instead of the same stuff for £8 at a london wine bar. You don't pay for pretentiousness. Too many food snobs around.

No being a drinker, I'd never heard of them before I saw today's BBC news, but I would not be surprised if other businesses gave up on social media. It quite popular as a gossip corner, but not much use for anything else. Most 'follows' and 'likes' are the only few seconds that people of take of them before they move on to something else.

Dear Oh dear..it's always left to Hedda to inform the masses of the reality of the situation.

This is nothing to do with a chain of (ghastly) pubs run by a right wing loony but has everything to do with the unfolding scandal of Cambridge Analytica and the use of confidential data obtained by said social media outlets and used by Wetherspoons to promote Brexit.

Early days yet but they are up to it up to their necks.

People are going to jail eventually.
