Incredibly unfair on the defence. Shocking teenage despair. But aren't we at fault as society, not dealing with the problems of being a teenager however true, false or (I suspect) exaggerated and altered by media descriptions? Teenagers have serious mental challenges and sexuality is just one of them. But we also know media has taught them how to deal with rejection, jealousy, being spurned, revenge, peer pressure and all those other influences.
