TOPIC: Meghan, Dad, Media
#177171
Meghan, Dad, Media 5 Years, 11 Months ago
The photos "scandal" illustrates the media at its worst; only to ready to eat itself for a good story. Any editor would fight to get photos like those of Dad and equally would fight to expose those who had the sense to make the most of it. Cannibalism at its most blatant.

The wedding hasn't even happened yet and I'm already sick of the coverage (which isn't to say I won't be watching on Saturday). But I suppose it makes sense to enjoy it while it lasts (which I don't think it will).

Is Meghan just being American, or does she want us to think of her as a new Diana?

‘I’m a hugger’, Meghan Markle tells palace

Perhaps she'll be wearing Diana's Spencer tiara at the wedding. Hello magazine did a spread a few months ago on which of the royal tiaras she might wear and I wouldn't be surprised if it's the Spencer one, just to emphasise the huggy feely sweeter than sweet message.

I tend to agree with hedda and think she's a bit phoney. At the very least, I suspect that having her wings clipped after being her own woman for so long will lose its appeal fast.

I love it. It gets more like The Beverley Hillbillies every day!

Apparently only two members of Meghan's family are coming to her wedding, but instead, some of the Clampetts will be "commenting" on the wedding for GMTV.
Wouldn't it have been easier to just invite them?
Anyone would think she was enjoying the attention and speculation.

I do think the effect of the media attention on Dad is significant; OK - overweight, probably smoked, drank or both but the impact of media attention may have been lethal. The world has changed during my lifetime and society appears unaware of just how.

Yes, it looks like the poor man was telling the truth about his heart attack last week, and is having a stent fitted today.

Maybe he needed the money from the photos to pay for it?

I have to say that I think Markle Dad is lucky the media didn't kill him. They tried.

Not as hard as his own children did. How come none of them are with him?

Who can tell the complex elements of family life? But nothing excuses the media behaviour.

Indeed, but we have come to expect that. However, I almost cringed myself to death when I read the letter from Markle junior saying how horrible his sister was and begging Harry to dump her.
The press is immoral and vicious, but they were provided with one hell of a peculiar story.

For me there is one over riding story; two people clearly in love with each other. That eclipses everything else for me; even if it turns sour (many do) - at the moment they are a couple in love which I celebrate.
