TOPIC: A Very British Scandal

A Very British Scandal 5 Years, 11 Months ago
Hugh Grant was great as Thorpe (I met him and his mother Ursula) but rather disappointed by the show so far - can't work out why - let's wait and see.

only seen the first part and a bit shallow but Hugh Grant is really wonderful. He just gets Thorpe's look & manner very well.

It's an interesting drama so far. Perhaps after this mini series is finished. I will watch Death in Venice whilst dusting off my Mahler 5th symphony vinyls.

I've worked out why I'm not keen - it's just a bit too jokey; the balance is wrong; the more serious elements require greater emphasis. After all, it ruined several lives (Thorpe, Scott, the wives, Rupert, friends) and prevented, perhaps, far better government (like Clegg in coalition, a Tory/Lib coalition could have changed the 70s and made the 80s very different).

Strangely I very much enjoyed it. Reminded me of Behind the Candelabra which is a terrific film.

Why didn't he just give him a National Insurance card?

so did I.

Strange how the memory plays tricks, I could have sworn that he lost his seat AFTER the trial, not before.

Why did he not return his NI card?

Very astute observation. Andrew is allowed to leave the Naughty Corner (ITK remains).

Michael Douglas and Matt Damon were superb. I remember seeing a great series of snaps taken by the late agent Michael Summerton from when he visited Liberace in his Las Vegas home.

Sad to see it's just a shell now and quite run down. Was never much of a grand house.

## I think back to when the film Mommie Dearest, which I and the late Express journalist Timothy Swallow made world famous and boosted it's box office when it was languishing. Hollywood had turned on Faye Dunaway for her brilliant performance as they deemed it was a "betrayal". How times change.

Coincidentally As you can see from my passport photo below there is a remarkable likeness to me and Joan.
