a deficit & debt is no different to having a mortgage (if the money is spent correctly).

It's an investment in the future and allows future generations (of scroungers) to pay for the hard work of those who went before them building up infrastructure etc..some things which they will never benefit from.

Amazing some who live under Capitalism don;t even frigging well understand how money works.

It they had their way (and I mention no names of these fools although the initials ITK comes to mind) Big Business would be told to never invest in projects that may take years or decades to come to fruition of profit etc etc and so on.

They would be told to live within their means..do no research that doesn't turn a profit asap, discover no new drugs or inventions etc etc.

The blanket accusation that all "dolers" are scroungers and useless defies history : such as in Australia where 100,000s of "useless" poverty stricken refugees fled to after WW2 but produced people like Sir Frank Lowy, creator of Westfield the biggest shopping center conglomerate in the world...or the Polish Jewish refugee who invented WIFI at the government funder Oz scientific CSIRO "quango" that has given the world brilliant inventions.

## One British example: the dole allowed 1000s of young musicians in the 1960s to work on their music, form bands etc etc which eventually (with the help of The Beatles) turn around Britain's Balance Of Payments...which is why they got MBEs.

Of course you need vision not the small corner shop economics of vision less Tories.

... and there in lies the problem !

With the Loonies it never is spent correctly.

All Surestart centres and meeting rooms for black lesbian dwarfs !

With a mortgage you have an asset that is always going to increase in value ... with the Loonies, you have a problem, borrow some money, have the debt, have the interest, and STILL have the problem !

£43 Billion this year alone in interest payments.

The Coming Collapse, hedda (a la Sodom and Gommorah) was also signalled by the recent vote in Ireland to allow people to kill children if they are inconvenient.

Any society which could even conceive to allow such a thing is doomed ! Doomed, I tell ye !

Nature is ALL about survival ... not self destruction.

Figures released on Newsnight (last night)

Syphillis in UK - UP 20%

Gonorrhoea in UK - UP 22%

As I said, if you take away responsibility society collapses and the animal takes over.

If it looks like a whore, acts like a whore etc ....

Have we paid off the money borrowed to bail out British Leyland yet (just to keep the Loonies' paymasters, the Unions, happy)
... you know, the British Leyland that we eventually had to sell-off for £1 !!!

You should research before posting.

The 'surplus' you will note excludes government capital investment.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom_national_debt

shows the real picture

Sadly, the deficit remains - at tens of billions.

As we continue to borrow at a rate of almost £1.5 billion every week.

Exactly ... what austerity was all about - bringing our spending down to levels that our income could sustain.

NOT "spend first" and then whistle in the wind wondering where the money was coming from !!!

Any fool can log in and edit Wiki...that is why I would be very selective about how I use it....and yes figures can be turned and manipulated to suit many different scenarios.

There was also a budget surplus during the first four years of Blair's New Labour (1997-2001).

Yes you are right about the Blair government. My apologies.

So my original 'no TORY government had a budget surplus in nearly 50 years' point applies.

Normally Wiki is not a good source, no; but I note you do not contradict any of this link's contents which can easily be verified elsewhere.

And presumably you agree that the telegraph link about a current budget surplus is misleading at best?

The substantial deficit still prevails - despite the promises of Osborne and others?

All stats can be misleading, who knows the real truth of this matter?
A 'surplus' will depend on what criteria you use to calculate the figures, governments of both sides have become very good at 'massaging' bad figures into better ones.
Things are of course getting better, considering the 2008 crisis left us hanging by a thread. But it is the middle of a world economic boom, bumpy waters await us all.

All stats can be misleading is a complete cop out!

The OBR, and numerous other agencies, will confirm:-

- the lack of a Tory surplus for about 50 years

- a 2017 budget deficit of c£60 billion

- and a National Debt of c£1.8 trillion, accumulated mainly by Tory administrations

Our civil servants are trying to fool us now?
