Fabulous - Hitchcock at his best; adorably nasty Mrs Danvers (Judith Anderson) meeting her end; George Sanders deliciously slimy; Olivier excellent (for a change); love it; one of my twenty best ever movies. Thank you, TPTV.

I have never seen this film (except a two-parter with Charles Dance and Emilia Fox, which I though was good). It's Laurence Olivier that puts me off. I just don't like him as an actor (don't understand the fuss) and have also read negative things about how he was in real life so am even less inclined to watch him. I watched some of these interviews of people reminiscing about Marilyn Monroe a while back (Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis, Robert Mitchum and Laurence Olivier) and Olivier was the only one to talk disparagingly of her (with what I suspect was a false reminiscence at her expense, as I've heard the "matzo balls" joke elsewhere without any reference to her).
