"'Most rape is just bad sex" : G.Greer 5 Years, 10 Months ago
Germaine Greer does it again..watch the howls of protest after this interview as #MeToo activists burst into flames.

I'm a great fan. She talks on an intellectual level and rarely an emotional one.

She's not the fanatic people seem to think she is. She's bound to think the #MeToo "movement" is one of the worst type of witch hunts because it risks decimating the feminist movement and reducing it to - "once size fits all" .

## Greer thinks anonymity for rape victims is a nonsense and has resulted after years of hang-wringing about "life ruined" that it shames women, often in a far worse way than the original crime as it repeatedly re-enforces the notion that because they have become a victim, they have somehow become a lesser person.

# In some countries..parts of India..women who are raped are then murdered by their family because of the "shame".

She thinks victims should be able to shout it from the rooftops..they do when a victim of all other crimes ! (not murder obviously..they can't shout if they've been murdered )

'Most rape is just bad sex - and not a spectacularly violent crime': Feminist Germaine Greer says rapists should NOT be jailed

I thought you would post this Hedda the moment I read it this morning.
She makes some very interesting points, but can't agree with her on all of course.
But it does open up the debate,by about the only person with enough firepower to face down the PC Feminist Police.

She is talking bollocks about PTSD, and that it is not an act of violence, and it unfortunately detracts from her main point that...

QUOTE
" the crime of rape should be abolished and in its place the assault law be expanded to include sex offences in varying degrees of gravity.

These offences would carry lesser penalties but would require a lower burden of proof concerning consent."
END QUOTE.

"She claims she was raped before her 19th birthday and is writing a new book"

Doing her bit to be the other end of the self-promotion see-saw from Rose "Brave" McGowan.

thank you. Always a pleasure when my brilliance is recognised (take note ITK)

The problem with any report on Greer is that points will be taken out of context. I've seen her give 2 speeches and then see reports that print the more sensational aspects without explanations for her views.

I guarantee when she gave this speech she didn't just dismiss all rape incidents. She's not a person without sympathy for what some women have gone through..in fact she's the entire opposite.

She's bound to have been talking about how exaggerated claims as we often mention on here..regret? revenge? etc with so many false accusers (as opposed to real deviants and genuine victims) harm what she believes in..the advancement of women's rights.

And yes she's not silly (her publishers are bound to be delighted)..she knows how to whip up publicity.

## I recommend reading one of her books to get where she's coming from.

### I had to avoid an argument just recently at someone's house with some lady friends. The railed against the Weinsteins and Kevin Spaceys of the world and actually said they didn't give a stuff that innocent people could be destroyed in the process. I found this abhorrent and when I (politely) pointed out the usual.."best some guilty go free etc etc"..they turned on me and accused me of being an "old privileged white man with outdated views"...emphasizing the "old" (and disgracefully neglecting to point the beauty and gorgeousness that goes with it ).

This was illuminating . Of course all of us in the room were greatly privileged because we are white but when I tried to point out they were attacking me because I was male and old (ageism?)..they really turned up the heat and launched into tirades against all "old men".

bizarre

Sounds like a pleasant evening. Wonder which of their relatives they'd want falsely convicted - maybe the old white ones are dispensable!

Seriously, though, perhaps ageism is a factor in false allegations. "Dirty old man" came up a lot in the reports about Rolf Harris. Google shows that several accusers described him like that, even the woman who never met him and whose allegations were overturned on appeal. Replacing his name in the search box with Dave Lee Travis also turns up results.

Another example appears on a Channel 4 programme of 2014. At 5.34 he is described as an "old gentleman" when in fact he would have been a youthful 40 something at the time of the alleged attack.

That's interesting, thanks for pointing that out. You'd think a criminologist would have spotted that, wouldn't you? I notice that a few seconds later she also refers to victims as "they".

I don't think these sorts of discrepancies really matter to him or the media, Jo. Ageism also seems to be lower down in the hierarchy of topics and 'isms' most likely to cause public outrage. Lysette Anthony certainly had no qualms pulling out the ageist card in her tirade against Germaine Greer and opponents of #MeToo in yesterday's Express :

I have been outraged by [Germaine Greer's] cruel inflammatory soundbites. Women don't need to be whittled away by other women. Life's tough enough at times.

Melanie Phillips has also railed against the #MeToo movement. Repeatedly. As has Piers Morgan. As has Michael Portillo. My goodness what a curious self-serving bunch. Ageing, too, which is the common denominator.

It does matter though when these sorts of stories are seen and used as 'evidence' in law courts and jury rooms.

Wow, she has a bit of a nerve, doesn't she. But perhaps she's just suggesting that their way of thinking is on its way out? She can't be too young herself… Google Google… she's 55.

Yes, googling Piers Morgan and it turns out he is actually a year younger than her. It's interesting that she was born just one month after Martin Luther King made his famous 'I have a dream' speech and two months before that memorable day of the deaths of President Kennedy, Aldous Huxley and C. S. Lewis.

I think Germaine Greer is light years ahead of the new "wimmins" group of pseudo feminists who she says have got it all wrong and are clueless.

the Feminazis seem to hate her. She also extremely witty.

I could be wrong but I think she mischeviously held back from elaborating on which cheek she had in mind for the 'R' tattoo to be placed.

While Germaine Greer's feminism seeks liberation (for everyone, not just women) the others seek equality and parity between the sexes. Everyone is equal on the heart level but how can equality in terms of worldly actions or deeds ever be achieved? This is complete nonsense.
