I think too many movies are made by ticks in the boxes.
This produces an average movie, the days when those actually creating could have a significant say are gone.
Which means no strange self-indulgent inaccessible and of only interest to the maker type of movie, but it also means many of the classics wouldn't have got past the committee stage.
Bit like the music business
Neutering the creative people is safer for the big corporations but ultimately kills off the great ideas.
They don't make films like that anymore because it's too much for the unimaginative to comprehend.
