Watch this masterpiece of a film again with the recent killings in mind.

It is a prophetic work and highlights the role of the media in the spate of killings.

Celebrity is no longer about applauding skill and hard work, it is about voyeurism and desperation. This individual knew that he would be plastered all over the worlds media and he felt he had a message to portray. If the media only reported the bare minimum in these situations and, most importantly, did not name the killer the occurences would drop away quickly.

Fame and notoriety are what these people are seeking and the media hand it to them on a plate - cue documentaries about the killers life, films, books and freaky fans who believe him to be a martyr.

How must the families of the dead feel to see their sons and daughters killer being given global air time to spew forth his mad, self important, drivel, his 'i'm unhappy and don't have any friends and it must be someone elses fault' rant.

Fuck him, and fuck his infantile message. Let him rot in anonymity.

The Oxygen of Publicity again.

Sadly, lack of responsibility in the media (which is every one of us) is yet again the villain.

At times like this, I am so glad I freelance write only.

Many reporter friends of mine are often in tears by having to write or release nasty stories for the sake of a wage and a deadline.

It`s horrific, my thoughts are with the families and friends.

And thats all I would write if asked to, professionally ,and it would be rejected by an editor for lack of "spice".
