TOPIC: Booker shortlist 2018
#180904
Booker shortlist 2018 5 Years, 7 Months ago
Due Thursday. I was quite expecting to have to read them all in prison (which I did in 2001, 2, 3 and 4) where you do at least have lots of time - every year takes me up to date on modern fiction. Last year was awful, though, worst in ages. Off I go to John Sandoe (I always try to buy them from an independent retailer).

Outside of the publishing world, I think you're probably the only person who gives a damn about the Booker awards. The publishing world is made up of people even more vacuous than the music industry these days - no one cares.

Reading and music don't rate?

On the former - the ability to grasp new thought(s) - is one of life's greatest gifts.

Try Chaucer, Dickens and Clancy - as a start.

Very few great people weren't great readers...

How terrible thinking you would be in prison reading them just shows who the victim is here.

What's that got to do with rigged awards?
