The Innovation of Justice conference in Manchester was fantastic. A couple of hundred people attended the Liam Allan and Annie Brodie-Akers event and several really moving and exciting speakers included a representative of the CCRC and the excellent QC Mark George (whose letter in The Guardian I had just read on the train - lambasting that bonkers hack Julie Bindel's latest loony idea). Eddie Gilfoyle (whose stunning Miscarriage of Justice has been infuriating watchers for ages) gave a really moving and heart wrenching speech. There were a lot of tears spilled (mainly on behalf of other victims, currently languishing in prison) and the extraordinary Joint Venture and IPP laws (and how the establishment is breaching them) were discussed as well as Failure To Disclose and other sore points. Julia Smart (Liam's barrister who found the missing texts) gave a fantastic speech. This crusade concludes next summer in June at the House of Commons with a meeting with MPs and a huge (I hope) protest outside (I shall be there). Please join the movement and get a few hundred others along - massed thousands expected. We shall overcome!
