I was once stopped when driving in London and produced a NSW license (always carried that as well as a Brit one & a California license for such occasions) whereupon coppers said words to effect "ho ho ho you're not in NSW now, we aren't corrupt".

Alas it was true..the NSW Police were regarded as one of the most corrupt in the Southern Hemisphere..something to do with Sydney being an old sea port with 100s of Brit & Irish crims arriving daily..bent British troopers etc etc.

Now largely cleaned up and a delight to encounter..very professional.

But then rumors emerged that the Victorian Police in the 90s had stolen the NSW copper's mantle as crooks, doing deals with organized crims, bikie gangs and so on.
