Great news about Cuban baseball; Cubans are hugely talented in this sport and no longer have to desert their country (never been there; am told it's fabulous). Baseball is my favourite sport; the main thing I miss about not being able to go to America is baseball; I used to go to almost every game I could (check out the clip on the Tipsheet forum).

Javier Sotomayor is the only Cuban sportsman I've heard about.

Arguably the greatest high jumper in history - winning, amongst, many other things - the Barcelona Olympic Gold in 1992.

One of only 13 to jump 2.4 metre, or higher - and one of 5 to jump it more than once.

Still in athletics - coaching etc. - the former world record holder is aged only about 50 now.

friends have just returned and say Cuba is sensational.

They adored Havana and were overwhelmed by the fact there are no street advertising billboards (they're in advertising).

They stayed in a hotel on a beach built in the 1930s and said it was a graceful Art Deco paradise.

What they especially loved..is that they found Cuban men refreshingly seemed to have no misogynist attitudes (they're Latin !) because for decades men & women have been treated as equals.

But it won't last..given breathing space because The Orange Faced Trump ( for all the wrong & hateful reasons) reversed Obama's decision to free up Cuba.

They noted that those mega huge cruise ships were docking every day with 1000s of tourists.
Same happened in The Bahamas where snobs like me could go and avoid the hoi polloi.
