TOPIC: Compulsory Comic Relief.

Compulsory Comic Relief. 5 Years, 1 Month ago
I am tired of being expected/jolly well forced to join in and donate to stupid Comic Relief.

I dont care what other people donate to, or not, but why do they have to be so militant?

So far today I have had a bloody clown shaking a bucket in my face while I am minding my own business having a bacon butty, had my bag packed at the supermarket against my will by buffoons in red noses who presumably thought I wanted my crisps pulverised under cans and spuds, and forced to donate the price of my exercise class to comic relief, followed by jolly photos.

Couldn't they just put a collection tin in the corner and leave people alone?

I agree when I worked in a pub full time - I always left a tin and a sign on the bar. Never pressured anyone in to donating, even told people who came with buckets to show ID and ask what the cause is for.

I do not give to CIN, Comic Relief or UNICEF...funny seeing rich celebrities asking me to donate.

I also dislike many aspects of CR, including the TV show.

However the overriding and significant factor, is the good it does - which makes some of the tiresome add-ons irrelevant.

Over about 30 years, CR has raised well over £1 billion (£1,000,000,000) for good causes.

And I think it's great that many seemingly pompous celebrities don't mind making fools out of themselves, for a night!

I am glad you posted this. I too cannot stand compulsory Comic Relief and the forced fun that accompanies it. Moreover, I refuse to donate anything to this charity because of its close associations with the NSPCC, which in my view has been responsible for widening the boundaries of what constitutes child abuse and causing all manner of grief for innocent people.

Don't even get me started on the large 'Pick your nose here' sign on my local Sainsbury's.

So my child didn't go to school in their pyjamas today (for which they were grateful) and most certainly didn't take in a donation so that the NSPCC could use it for their boundary-widening or poster campaigns that never acknowledge that some children don't tell the truth.

Rant over. For now.

I agree, Sheba. (what a lovely name )
What really annoys me about the assumption that children dont lie, is that it completely misses the point that a child who lies about such things might well have difficulties in other areas, which are ignored.

We'd be better off then without Comic Relief and the NSPCC?

Certainly without the NSPCC which I suspect has some VERY nasty skeletons in its closet (mainly financial) - examination of which, I would guess, will shortly emerge in the mainstream media.

I think we would definitely be better off without the NSPCC.
it is not much help in protecting children, in my opinion.
