Yes disgraceful but I wonder, is it any worse for homophobes to construct false allegations to lock people up for years, destroying lives and careers, ruining families, often killing people who decide suicide is a better bet? To many gays, that is not only more cruel but also more hypocritical, pretending to be liberal and tolerant; disguising bigotry behind a polite front by police, lawyers, media, judges?

It is worse in the sense that if you are gay you can expect to be chucked off a building, but you can be minding your own business, hurrying through a train station, and be accused and stitched up.

Peter Tatchell, interviewed on CNN this evening, was saying that governments and the EU had been slow to condemn this move by Brunei. From a quick look at their Twitter accounts, Donald Trump, Theresa May, Jeremy Corbyn, Donald Tusk and Jean-Claude Juncker haven't commented on it at all.

But hey....we gotta respect their way of life cos they do all the shake hands and photo shoors with Trump and May etc...
Also that flying carpet looking bloke is most likely bext mates with Jeremy Corbyn.

Remember you never see a feminist march against Sharia law. Guess whipping women is fine just not in your back yard.

Most of us in the western world think it's wrong to punish people for doing stuff that causes no harm to others. Brunei (and many other Islamic countries) disagrees and doesn't take the lack of harm into account. Their concern is to uphold a moral standard.

Having sex with a willing 14 or 15 year old girl is very harshly punished in the Anglophone world, despite it not doing any harm (just the opposite if the participants have a good time). The lack of harm isn't taken into account. The concern is to uphold a moral standard. Several Islamic or majority Islamic countries disagree with this moral standard and have ages of consent of 15 (Syria), 14 (Bangladesh and Chad) and 10 (Niger).


Maybe a little more thought about who we're criticising, and why, wouldn't go amiss.
