Ghostbusters 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Today, 35 years ago, this classic movie was released.

A comedy - set in New York City - about a ghost catching business.

With four failed and eccentric academics - grabbling with slimy extra-terrestrial type creatures.

Ground breaking and successful, it grossed $300 million - on a $30 million budget.

Both were, at the time, unprecedented figures for a comedy movie.

Nominated for two Oscars, and the first movie to link humour to science fiction.

Wasn't Star Wars supposed to be funny?

George Lucas agrees with you. (although how all that slurping through a mask was supposed to be taken seriously beats me)

But whoever compiled this list thinks there were earlier comedy sci fi films.

Offhand I can think of Flesh Gordon in about 1975 or 6 which was supposed to be funny. (it wasn't)
I dont like much science fiction. Apart from The incredible shrinking man and inner-space/Fantastic voyage, I cant think of many I have liked.

grabbling

Portmanteau word?

Grappling + scrabbling?

Grabbing + struggling?

Gripping + dabbling?

I love Ghostbusters. A popular but intelligent movie weaving together themes bigger than its superficial premise. Anyone who's been anywhere near an academic institution will recognise the Peter Venkman character (Bill Murray) instantly. We all had him as a professor at some point didn't we? I know I did...

I remember seeing it in the cinema only vaguely though. My friends and I, knew straight away it was going to be a success...sadly Ghostbusters 2 was a let down and I have ignored the reboot.

The video games were hit and miss also.
