TOPIC: Rory Stewart

Credit to Robbie who was, I think, first, a long time ago, to spot potential here. I think almost everybody watching his speech would agree that he's head and shoulders above the rest of the appalling Tory candidates. Indeed I suspect he might just sneak through and grab the crown. And I also suspect he's the only person now who could extricate the country from the Brexit mess, one way or the other.

Haven't followed his career but I must look into him now.

Best of a bad bunch?

the leading candidates are utter rubbish and I don't say that because they are Tories (some of the older ones would be great) as of course "some of my best friends are Conservatives".

# I reckon if they go for Boris the Conservative would be demolished at an election with him as PM.

# How many vote? is it 100K members? scary.

Thanks for the credit Mr King. Rory is the only candidate with a realistic vision of how to get out of this Brexit mess, reach out to other parties and get some of them to sign up to the current deal, which is the only deal there is. He already has good relationships with Labour members like Lisa Nandy and others in mainly leave voting constituencies (63% of Labour seats), so this is realistic.

Also post brexit, he has a vision to focus on Adult Social Care, which is going to be a growing problem in the UK, and it shows that he cares about the vulnerable. Boris's only policy is to raise the top income tax threashold. I don't think that making the well-off slightly better off is the most important task required in our society. Also Boris pretends to be tough, but usually he backs down quite quickly, such as when he voted for May's "Terrible" deal, at the third time of asking.

Sadly however I think either Boris, Gove, or Hunt will end up winning, but I will fight till the end to support Rory https://www.roryforleader.co.uk

My suspicion is that one of the more famous contenders will win (media tools OK) and the Brexit disaster will mean whoever gets to be PM will get dumped and either Labour will win an election or Rory Stewart will take over when the latest loony loses his job.

MWT agrees with you.

"The more I hear from @RoryStewartUK the more I think he has it to be the next PM ."

He includes an interesting video clip of Stewart from Channel 4 News.

"Is this the person that you want writing the instructions to the nuclear submarines?" Quizzed about Boris Johnson, Tory leadership candidate Rory Stewart says when he asks Conservative members this question he trusts them "to arrive at the correct answer"."

Buttering up Conservative members probably won't do any harm, but not sure if they're really "deeply wise"!

Noticed a comment on Facebook recently by someone who said he wasn't one of Stewart's constituents but had written to him about Brexit and received a well thought-out and well crafted reply in a hand-written envelope. So it looks as if he really is prepared to reach out to people politicians tend to ignore.

I just can't help but think that he's talks far too much sense and seems far too decent to have any hope these days, and keep wondering if he's genuine or if there's a "nasty party" core to him that would burst forth if he did become PM.

Agreed. My hope is that either Boris or McVicious will do the Brexit stuff and then bugger off for ever!

My suspicion in this era is that if he proves the best candidate and sneaks the crown, his appearence will mean he does not enjoy success with the public.

Rory makes it through to the next round with 19 votes, so there is still hope. Hopefully the rejected candidates supporters will plump for him, however I doubt it since they were all brexiteers.

If he fails, I think he should join the lib dems, and become their leader, and on current polling they are in line to be the next government.
