G. I. Bill 4 Years, 10 Months ago
75 years ago today, this bill was signed by President Roosevelt - at a cost of $67 billion.

Giving returning WW2 veterans (and their dependents) low interest home and business loans - and employment compensation.

In addition, they were given the right to free education - allowing 20+ million to graduate from University.

A huge success for the US economy, with so many educated workers available - and a major boost for American colleges.

Presidents Bush and Ford were educated under the terms of the Bill; also Al Gore.

Sadly, our veterans - from a variety of conflicts - can be seen daily in the doorways of our streets.

Our successive governments weren't of much help, forcing so many to fend for themselves. Often damaged by war.

FDR was the greatest ever US president ( sorry Donald).

His "socialist" policies boosted tens of millions of Yanks into the Middle Class and created a booming economy.

(naturally they called him a "class traitor")

I was amazed in the late 70s to find Americans had better social security benefits, certainly than the UK and often doubled up with Federal and State.

All dismantled by Reagan and Bill Clinton.
