This 140 year old English Premier League club has been banned - by UEFA - from the Champions League for two seasons, and fined €30 million.
Premier league sanctions could also follow - bringing the total financial cost to c€300 million, although MCFC are to appeal.
Under the Financial Fair Play rules, a club's spending can only equate to a percentage of its income. MCFC is accused of overstating this.
Overall ownership of MCFC is held by the state of Abu Dhabi, a Chinese government agency and wealthy US investors - so legal fees won't be a problem!
In addition to MCFC - this group owns clubs in New York, Melbourne, Yokohama and elsewhere. A long fight awaits - as UEFA seeks to stop wealthy owners buying silverware.
