This latest hysteria does remind me of the Moral Panic around the madness provoked by media 20 years ago (and then after Jimmy Savile's death). A small problem inflated like False Allegations into an enormous, death bringing insanity.

The one recent thing about CoronaVirus that does worry me is the Chinese doctor saying he had FIVE fatalities in one night. That sounds more serious than the otherwise very few "deaths to infection ratio" announced globally.
And the original "whistle blower" doctor who seemed quite young and healthy but died.

Otherwise it really seems like 'flu. I don't remember ever seeing a similar media panic during 'flu outbreaks. Most recover, a few elderly die.
I've had 'flu many times, most recently a couple of years ago when the wrong vaccine had been given. A week in bed; lots of water; paracetamol.

But these panics take over; SEX - paedos under every bed. Police totally absorbed by ridiculous investigations. Huge amounts of compensation paid out. Vast sums paid by media to false accusers (remember the Gary Glitter/Max Clifford scandal when the Judge lambasted Max and the News of the World for offering £50,000 if the false accuser got GG convicted?).

The ridiculous Westminster drama (quite clearly the fact that some MPs and authority figures were gay, which provoked a sensible cover up, got inflated into a fake "paedo" scandal after being gay became legal) and the Carl Beech fiasco illustrated the madness of the False Allegations Industry which means that now, in 2020, police attempt to pervert the course of justice, trying to gain convictions, promotion, budget increases - with the help of the media.

Sex panic. Health panic. Humanity has become SOOO easily fooled.

I highly recommend the YouTube channel of Dr. John Campbell.

He is a doctor, who teaches nurses, and has himself worked as a nurse in ER. He examines the evidence, critically, and draws conclusions based on his own knowledge of epidemiology, and a range of international contacts.

Sound stuff, spoken about seriously and without drama in plain English, but ultimately not that comforting.

The initial cover up by Chinese authorities has been made up for, to some extent, by drastic action, which has slowed the spread down. Bear in mind that the only purpose of such measures is to slow the spread, this particular virus is unlikely to be stopped.

By slowing the spread, it evens out the number of critical cases, potentially allowing health services to deal with these cases. If allowed to spike, the NHS will be overwhelmed, and the critical cases will more likely lead to death.

This is a serious situation, and I fear the government is more concerned about the economy than health. It is true, and irrelevant, that 80% of cases are mild, and deaths of infants under 9 are nil. It is the 20% that are severe which creates a strain on resources, and if you are older, have COPD or other conditions, then there is a chance of death. The ratios of death to infection may be low, but the volume of cases is likely to be high due to the way this virus spreads. Instead of a ratio of infection (R0)of 1.5 for normal flu, this virus seems to be 2.5 to 3.

Dr John can explain better than me, and I have been reassured to see someone of such integrity working hard amongst the deluge of dross on YouTube.

The fact it is (allegedly) no longer a problem to be gay even for an MP has been a factor in driving Pedo Panic.

There is a significant although small number of faux "Christian" loons who unable to vent their fury on gays (lesbians still get a free ride) or a dear old Tory minister who likes to sit at home in an evening sipping a G&T while wearing his wife's little black cocktail frock and pearl earrings has them in a fury because...there has to be..they insist..an Enemy who is obviously a banner carrier for Beelzebub.

Now that they cannot attack a few Nancy boys dancing the evening away to (the utterly ghastly) Madonna (OK showing my age) means they had to find a target..now in the name of "won't someone think of the children".

The media were more than happy to leap in and promote the insanity (they never lose..build you up then tear you down).

Add in "social media" ( social?..un social more like it) where any old ratbag can proclaim Barack Obama built a secret tunnel to a Washington pizza bar where he went every evening to have a Pepperoni and Pepsi while meeting up with Hilary Clinton and the Queen of England who flew in secretly every week with a plane load of stolen Canadian Indigenous kiddies to be used in a Satanic ritual under orders from an obscure British aging DJ by the name of Jimmy Savile.

It's just not funny..such things are sweeping the world and driving nutters to take action and accuse all and sundy with dire results..just look at the Hampstead Satanic Hoax that caused devastation in the lives of so many and was driven by a tiny handful of creepy fanatics.

## as for Coronavirus .. it's the unexpected event that will destroy Neoliberalism which has been careering out of control (controlled Capitalism is easy to live under..as long as it is controlled).
It will bring many down including Donald Frump..because the Trumps, Boris' etc are the real fanatics who the "Free" Market (it's not) is a religion and the Stock Exchange is the arbiter of all life on the planet and it's ups & downs (gambling)should rule all decisions.

While Coronavisus may fizzle out, or get a Hell of a lot worse it could be far more devastating that the 1929 Great Depression.

## It's difficult comparing Coronavirus to Influenza as despite them having similar symptoms there are Big Difference & that is..we have a vaccination for the Flu and have for decades. We don;t have one for Coronavirus and it looks like the way coronvirus kills may be very different..

It's why we're all going to Hell in that Handbasket..even the innocents like me.
