CoronaVirus media hype 4 Years ago
If not, why doesn't the country shut down every year for the flu dangers?

Maybe because coronavirus:-

- is totally new, with unknown properties and capabilities

- has no vaccine or antidote, or is likely to for some time

- is predicted to kill 1 million - this figure is at the lower end of WHO estimates

And - if the virus mutates (again) - virtually any cataclysmic outcome is possible...

Goodness gracious; so it looks like the lockdown is gonna work after all. Thank god for that - imagine how many people might die if we all carried on as normal without a care in the world. A+ to Boris Johnson and all European leaders for taking dramatic action so soon; E minus to Trump for poo-pooing the virus and then changing his stance at the last minute.

Yes exactly; if it isn't as bad as predicted it will be because of the lockdowns everywhere. Nobody will dare suggest it might have all been a media inflation, inevitable, lethal as much as flu or colds can be, same vulnerable section of the community, the old & frail. Let's hope there will be a vaccine soon, like there emerged for flu a few years ago. Let's hope it works each year (as the flu one didn't 2017-2018; 50,000 dead in 2 months; no media fuss then).

Meantime Geriatric1944 diaries continue as there does appear to be interest.

JK, Your position of believing there’s nothing to worry about is just as ridiculous and ill-informed as any media outlet which has overstated the case. You may be proved right (or wrong) but all you’ve done is make a 50/50 bet and got lucky. The link you posted above just reported that some Facebook user believes that Americans that coughed at the end of last year could have had Coronavirus. What the f***k has that got to do with anything, that media report is just reporting on idiots like you who have an opinion and will try anything to get people to follow them, what irony .

This is a completely new virus which jumped species within the last 4 or 5 months so the medical experts are learning all the time and yes advice is given based on being safe rather than sorry. You are not a medical expert, stop trying to believe you are and it’s you who will find the answer and save mankind. You need to lose the God complex you have.

Yes that is interesting. 3 friends fron my local pub all in Dec had these symptoms that went on for a couple of weeks. As soon as corona came out they all said we are sure that's what we had as we hadn't experienced anything like it - not in it's severity but distinctiveness and tenacity.

All btw ok enough in themselves to still attend the pub! All made full recoveries. I sat with them all several times and myself developed a protracted dry cough. I am hopeful I have had this thing already.

Keep watching the daily videos Blue Boy; you may learn something (if you listen). I've never said Covid19 is"nothing to worry about". It's as bad as flu - possibly even that 2017-18 epidemic which killed 50,000 in England & Wales alone in 2 months.

Like flu; common sense saves lives. I don't know about you but if I get flu or even a bad cold I self isolate, stay in bed, both to get better and so as NOT to infect others. Due to the Media Inflation that you have apparently caught, the species has gone mad, spent fortunes it doesn't have (that will cause future deaths; far more than CV).

There's no harm in believing the Emperor Has New Clothes until you get killed for daring to say he's naked. Then it turns very nasty indeed. Just ask the Jews, Gypsies and Gays in Germany 80 years ago.

What hypocrisy, you criticise the media for exaggeration yet somehow try to align your position to the situation of other persecuted minorities from recent history.

My time is precious to me so the answer is No I don’t watch your videos so I apologise if on Youtube your comments are more sensible and balanced than your written word on here.

If you start watching the videos you may learn something. The use of media and mass hysteria by the Nazis is well documented. I suppose you don't believe it and feel Herr Hitler and his team were delightfully honest with the Germans, just as now media is faithfully and truthfully relaying the reality; that CoronaVirus is only generally lethal to a tiny, specific area (of which I am a member) - the elderly and those with underlying health problems.

Feel free to believe who you like. I always found the Nazis unbelievable.

Certainly the media has gone haywire but I'm not so sure it's hype.

This is a virus which we don't know about and comparing it the the Flu is odd.

Of course the Flu kills people but now there is another virus doing the same thing and by the quickening rise in the number of deaths it's surely alarming.

And the Flu does not kill like Coronavirus which it appears is spreading far more easily than the Flu for which there is a vaccine...there isn't for the latest virus.

It's a bit like saying there was a deadly car crash yesterday so the one today makes no difference..or because there is an earthquake somewhere and then a second onw it should be ignored because of the first one.

I find that comment aimed at me to be grossly offensive so I've no intension in making any future posts on this forum. I don't have a problem will rationale intelligent debate but you've crossed a line.
