Kent Coast Invasion! 3 Years, 8 Months ago
Fact checker:

Last week just 597 people risked their lives crossing the channel on inflatible boats.

Boris - statesman like as ever - called them "bad, stupid, dangerous, criminal".

On the latter point he has no idea if they are exercising their inalienable right to asylum rather than breaking any laws.

And is it so "bad" to risk everything to get your child - or yourself - out of a war zone?

Of course it is bloody "dangerous" to do so. A moments reflection and compassion should lead any half decent human to realise how desperate they must be.

A sad little twerp called Nigel got loads of press coverage filming 10 sorry souls climbing out of a dinghy. He called this a "shocking invasion of the Kent coast".

The media broadly happy to go along with this.

There is no new story: numbers are the same as recent summers. They are just more visible and at risk; having to take to water because of all the checks on lorries now.

In 2017 poor old put upon Blighty was home to just 0.5% of the Worlds refugees.

In contrast to what you read in the media the UK is home to less and less migrants; down from 238 000 in 2009 to 133 000 in 2019.

There is no story here.

It is manufactured bullshit from nasty little Britain.

Low of Boris to say that, but he presumably feels the need to pander to those who voted Tory rather than UKIP.

I missed the coverage of Farage. Which media went along with his versions of events? From Googling Nigel Farage Kent coast the only MSM results I can see are an Independent article saying he's been accused of trying to inflame anti-immigrant tensions and a Kentonline story saying he's being criticised about claiming that it was an "invasion". ???

Here is a brief glimpse of the type of home environment many are fleeing from:

Why don't they stop when they reach reach France better food and weather ? Italy is rich with culture and pasta dishes.

Remember Wyot asylum seeker means going to the next safest country. They skip over the like Denmark, Germany, Spain, Italy, Luxembourg, Czech even France. No issues in any of those countries.

I have worked and lived in Czech Republic about 8 years ago but only for a few years. I never seen so much pleasant and welcoming hospitality.

I did try and speak the speak Czech language to a taxi driver he just burst out laughing and said "Where do you want to go mate?" He was pleased that I tried though.

Record shops and restaurants in Prague are incredible.

UK - shit weather, food, houses that look like shoe boxes crammed in, bland alcohol, job market is tight but lot's of benefits and dole money.

My sister lives in both Cyprus and Slovenia. These migrants must be mad if they can't hop on a boat from Venice to Slovenia.

I just meant the media happy to give the silly little man coverage rather than necessarily also calling it an invasion; but it is also obvious that a lot of the media know what they are doing by giving him oxygen....

The idea of the obligation to seek asylum in the first safe country is an often repeated myth; often falsely attributed to the Geneva Convention.

You won't find it in reality in international law.

As for why here; why should this worry me GM?

But to bust another myth the majority of refugees do try and settle in France rather than risk their necks on the crossing.

In 2019 France recieved 124 000 asylum applications, the UK 36 000.

Live Covid it is the proportionality, the reality that goes up in smoke against a "good story".

There is no story here apart from the human misery of these poor people...

How much will cost the taxpayers ? Sorry it's always us that bail out the failing governments and their schemes.

The government should give us a say in which each individual tax payer should contribute to.

I want welfare scrapped and only give money to the elderly, carers and disabled individuals.

Rest can live on vouchers but no tobacco or booze. If you want clothes then again vouchers but only for certain shops and brand line.

I'm off to Lativa next week for a job offer - I earn my poverty

Cost? Not a lot. Nothing compared to the benefits claimed by young white nationals who won't work.

While waiting their verdict on asylum our Gov gives them £36 a week allowance.

They can't work or claim the £76 min state benefit. So they aren't stealing our jobs and wimmin!

The scheme is only "failing" if you want to live in a world where those trying to escspe war can't go to another country and ask for help.

Not a place I'd like to live.

Who said anything about stealing women?

You seem to forget benefits add up. Not forgetting shelter, food, clothing and shoes. Some even get sheltered in very nice hotels.

Don't tell me about warzones I was a kid during The Troubles. I have seen it and heard it.

A relative got me a job in New York but I still had to go through proper channels.

I even lived in a damp dingy room above the pub where I worked. Even back then it was poor pay wage.

I have never claimed benefits or welfare !

If they pay thousands to people traffickers then they could move mainland Europe and set up a business or go in to partnerships.

When a friend suggested we should start a gay club in Canada. It was a no brainer - there wasn't many back then.

We found an old closed down club that was boarded up, the 6 of us put 650 dollars each in cash in to secure rent and fees. We gutted the place out fully, started as soon as we got the keys.

Whilst we were working our regular jobs we whilst still worked on the place; sometimes sleeping on the floor.

When they had too pay fees and secure liquor licence. For furniture we scouted around restaurants, junkyards, garage sales.

It was done equally and no idea was rubbished we used every idea and suggestion to see what worked and what didn't.

We even visited other gay clubs to get ideas. Despite us all being straight it was fantastic idea and the club made us a lot money.

I remember getting a a phone call from a business partner who told me to come down the club. When I was there there, I saw our lawyer who helped through the legal process just sitting there with a huge smile.

He took out a contract and a pen. It was an offer from him for my share it was a Very handsome offer. Despite only being opened less than a year

I negotiated he could have my share but only if he could increase the offer. Which he did without hesitation. He gave me a cheque which cleared in a few days. He bought a few of our shares that night.

In hindsight I should of been firmer but seeing the numbers was amazing from a mere $650.

Cut a long story short it became a career buying pubs and clubs or just being a wine salesman for luxury American hotels, cruise ships and airlines.

When I go to Lativa this week. I will be working and minor owning an underground cocktail bar.

Not sure where we are going with the debate GM but enjoyed reading that thanks.

Sounds like you have led an interesting and varied life up to now making your own luck and seeing a fair bit of the world.

Just saying nothing is stopping this migrants doing the same. They could set set up a clothing brand - or textiles. Lot's of textiles in Iran and Afghanistan.

If they didn't pay thousands to illegally transported. Instead they probably find it easier for the Home Office and charities doing all the work for them.

Give people an inch they take a mile.

So you are saying that if you go where the work is, work hard, and seize opportunities, you can make something of yourself and not be a drain on the tax payers?

I think this is exactly what the migrant people are intending.

No because I don't ask for handouts nor entitled to welfare. These migrants pay a fortune to traffickers. If they used that money to start a business they wouldn't need to enter illegally.

They pay I read "up to" 10k a time (the ones who pay traffickers as opposed to buying an inflatible boat and a paddle and chancing it...).

Not sure how they set up a successful business in the UK remotely prior to travel with that amount of money GM....?

There is also the problem that they are seeking asylum and therefore not legally entitled to work in UK until they have arrived and been processed.

You've missed the point again !

IF they didn't pay the traffickers - they could that money to set up a business from their own country or neighbouring countries.

They could set up a sports clothing brand for example in Iran to sell to the Western world.

I think we are talking at cross purposes GM. My post was about asylum seekers fleeing war zones or persecution. Why would setting up a business in the place they are escaping from offer a solution?

I can see your point if referring to economic migrants though have no idea how realistic your suggestions might prove to implement...

You need to stop watching mainstream media and daily papers. This is not going anywhere.

Outrageous !!

6 more today in a dinghy.

Where is Sir Francis Drake when you need him?

Would have sorted this mob out quick smart.

Shame they fired him for drunkenness. Believed to be living in retirement in Brighton.

More tax money wasted.
