Can anybody explain something obvious? 3 Years, 6 Months ago
Governments surely look at France - "second wave" for over 6 weeks now, virtually no deaths. Then they MUST understand that Covid19 is similar to Flu; different in that it is far more infectious and far less lethal; it has different effects (particularly "long tail") but has changed from the "first wave" when it clearly simply killed off many elderly, vulnerable - basically hastening their demise, as most infections would such as the common cold.

As a result, social rules MUST be different from lockdowns and trying to "control the spread". Protect and treat the vulnerable. Rates of infection will never be controlled in the long run.

Common sense says greater hygiene; care over direct contact with the elderly; lose weight if obese; stop smoking.

You are trying to apply common sense and real data to a situation that is now wholly political.

I don't think it is political. I don't go along with conspiracy theories. Too many countries blindly following the media hyped route instead of sensible analysis. Take Germany - who has dealt with it pretty sensibly so far, now panic arrives "we must control spread" - why? We don't for flu or colds.

I don't hold with any of the conspiracies either. By political, I mean that having fallen for the media blitz and hype, Govs will now stand and fall based on controlling infection rate headlines.

Their responses doesn't even follow either science camp now (either told to lockdown fully in Sept by SAGE or the scientists saying lockdowns achieve nothing).

It follows what they perceive as the demands of the population to protect them. These demands are ridiculous; because the population has been terrified and scarred by months of media sensation.

So we get the current crippling impasse; careers are at stake, Govs could fall if they admit they have got it so badly wrong.

Also, you are forgetting that a lot of people are very thick and uncaring, so will not or can not take care, and that it is difficult to protect vulnerable people when so many of live with or care for younger people.

I am just so bloody sick of the whole thing. It is one bunch of nonsense after another.

It is a race to the bottom now, more severe restrictions and punishments, followed by an enforced vaccination of the population next year

I am also now very pessimistic about the situation.

There seemed to be a glimmer of hope last month when some media started to challenge the orthodoxy but it is not affecting Government, which seems hell bent on treating Covid differently from other comparable illnesses that we accommodate with sensible precautions, particularly with regard to the vulnerable.

And so many of the people seem content to go along with it; or just incapable of thinking.

Meanwhile we destroy the very thing (humanity) that we are purporting to try and save.

It is heartbreakingly stupid.

Personally, I am lucky to not be threatened financially because of lockdowns, and my wife received prompt and great (NHS) health care in Surrey during lockdown. No personal axe to grind here.

But I can't stand to see millions of youngsters thrown on the scrap heap for a generation, and people dying in their tens of thousands because of lockdowns that have never been proven to achieve anything.

Why do you think it will be enforced? They have already said that hardly anybody is going to get it anyway.

The rules in place so far and the lack of any political opposition to them. In England, each party seems to want to outdo the other.

I think it will be soft at first, e.g. you'll have to prove you've had the vaccine to go to a place where there will be a lot of people (pubs, sports events etc.). Eventually it will be mandatory, with a slogan that it as a price to pay in order to return to normality.

Come to think of it yes that sounds very likely. Already you cant go into some pubs and gyms without the stupid app.

"Too many countries blindly following the media hyped route instead of sensible analysis." says the man who repeats ad infinitum the bits of the tabloids he agrees with.
