The John Leslie case (and indeed the past 18 years of vindictive attacks on him) is far more important than it looks.

Police and CPS should NOT assist bent lawyers and false accusers attempting to use the current laws to extract money from people, especially wealthy celebrities but including ordinary people, men and women who are deemed potential sources of cash.

Meanwhile crimes go uninvestigated and ignored.

Because of media coverage, fame and glory influences police, including senior officers (see the Ted Heath fiasco).

Because of increased circulation and ratings, media inflates tales to increase profits.

Because of greed bent lawyers adore false allegations (see Jimmy Savile).

Three seconds of grope? Even if true, this case is a prime example of disgraceful, vindictive police and CPS policy.

I think the new DPP Max Hill QC is totally committed to changing this but let's wait and see.

Somewhat off-topic but Anthea Turner and Diane-Louise Jordan, both 60 (sixty?!), look far better preserved than Ulrika Jonsson, who at 53, looks at least ten years older.

John Leslie Trial broke many points in CPS code of practice
www.cps.gov.uk/publication/code-crown-prosecutors

Like reliability of evidence and credibility. Among other aspects.

I do not have time or know where to look but I suspect more than likely many of the police codes were also broken.

The CPS code is very good. And I have noted many of these trials actually break the code itself. Big time that is.

Same problem as JK's latest book notes the lack in checks, enforcement of proper practices etc. In other words the criminal elements within the justice system itself allows those criminals to get away with all sorts including murder.

Thank you wjlm - yes, people are starting to realise the line is being crossed again and again. I can only hope that somebody like Chief Constable Gavin Stephens will decide to do something high profile about his officers at Surrey Police feeling it is acceptable to break the law. I fear most career cops, like politicians, know that keeping a low profile, head down, ignore serious crimes by officers - is the way up the slippery ladder. They are also, however, aware that the grease on the rungs is often put there by a co-conspirator ("we want a good story") the media.
