TOPIC: Defence Budget

Defence Budget 3 Years, 5 Months ago
Today, Boris will announce the biggest increase in 30 years - surprisingly citing an urgent need to bolster and update our defence capabilities.

At a time when other countries, including those we think are plotting against us, are heavily involved in eradicating the coronavirus and saving lives.

£16.5 billion will be spent over 4 years, creating around 10,000 jobs, Boris says. Observers are questioning the timing and necessity for such massive expenditure.

I think it is vitally needed but should be scrapping a huge amount of physical costs (Trident? I'm with Corbyn on that) for old fashioned protection and instead starts proper, grown up, 2020 developments (cyber crime; online terrorism etc).

Trident costs up to £5 billion a year and needs urgent replacing also, as do the facilities at Coulport and Faslane.

Only one of the 4 Vanguard submarines is travelling the world at any one time. Never was a missile fired in anger.

When a submarine is in use, another is having maintenance - with the other two getting ready to go, and recovering from use.

A totally unescessary burden with all equipment - including so many unused (and extremely costly to maintain) nuclear missiles - supplied by the US.

Yet another example where Jeremy Corbyn was dead right, spot on, yet media (determined to destroy him and, eventually, succeeding, as they have now done with Trump) concentrated on the ridiculous Anti Semitism. Wankers superficialising tabloid headline slogans for the stupid gullibles.

There simply must be some kind of supportive activity going on underneath the surface of the collective mind. How else can the survival of the world be explained as things, at surface level, continue to fall apart, and leaders continue to flock to the fake media deity for guidance?
