TOPIC: If the media...

If the media... 3 Years, 3 Months ago
cared about the truth (which, in my opinion, is often a BETTER STORY than the exaggerated hype, especially when the media image starts boring everyone to death), they would carry, alongside the daily "deaths WITH", the ages of the dead (hundreds over 90, hundreds over 80), their inability through age to resist infection (old people can die WITH the common cold), the figures of those who die each day with other, far more serious health problems - I suspect, then, the daily death figures of those with Covid would be tiny, far less than the normal daily death figures from cancer, by example.

Yep it is nigh on impossible to get comparative data at the moment. When we start looking at the effects of vaccine this will be a real problem and keep figures inflated.

If they continue to count someone who dies from cancer but tests positive for Covid (but has no symptoms) as a Covid death, this will continue to distort how dangerous Covid is and how effective vacccines for it are.

I don't know what the difference in figures would be, but it is not acceptable that someone with a manageable illness such as diabetes, asthma etc should go into a hospital for routine treatment, be GIVEN covid through slapdash precautions and then have their death written off as "With" and "underlying conditions" when they should have been alive for another twenty or thirty years.

Covid aside, the classification of death causes can be difficult as domino effects are often in place within the body. A cancer patient has a heart attack for instance. Or the death certificate correctly says the cause of death is renal failure; but doesn't mention that a kidney's high blood sugar level is because the deceased was a diabetic.

Correct Honey; the ramifications of over reacting to the media over hype have been appalling; far, far worse than victims from the virus. It is the curse of simplification. We humans no longer have the time or inclination for depth of thought or analysis. We live in a world of tabloid headlines. And the simpler the slogan, the bigger the circulation or ratings.

560 000 deaths predicted by this study. Not from C19, of course, but from lockdown:

Just what will it take to make the Lockdown zealots think again?

Agreed, lockdowns aren't really working. What alternative action would you suggest?

This question doesn't make sense to me Mal. I have said why in "the blame game" thread so won't repeat here.
