Perhaps because this completely unknown and highly infectious virus had be tackled from scratch (after deaths had occurred), by the government, who were the first in the world to produce a vaccine?

The virus is just as unknown and highly infectious for other countries, some of which do not have the same advantages of affluence and adequate hygiene.
Am I alone in finding all the boasting about being the first with the vaccine and best at delivering it extremely distasteful?
It is not the Champions league. It is people's lives.

Exactly...exasperates me all the time hearing people defend the Gov or say it has been "difficult for everyone". Yes it has been; and we have been crowned world champs at being shit at it.

Then they will need to come up with something much more dangerous to most than C19 GM. To most it isn't dangerous at all. But can obviously be very nasty to a vulnerable minority.
Every Gov in the world has protected their vulnerables better than we have. This Gov has excelled though in getting it's citizens to blame themselves.
I heard repeated like a bloody mantra all over Xmas that we will end up in a 3rd lockdown because of "rule breakers"; never because what we are doing is a waste of time.
I actually think that this reality is too awful for the majority to internalise.

Not sure I understand Mal but surely the virus has been highly infectious and new everywhere? How this somehow exonerates our Gov I don't understand?
Yes we have done well on vaccines and the roll out seems to be going well too. Great. But so what?

doubtful..you're living in a consumer society. It doesn't work without customers.
sheer incompetence because Britain elected a buffoon...the biggest joke Boris played on the UK was convincing enough people he was a lovable buffoon rather than incompetent one.
Bit like the USA where a cheap grifter convinced enough people (aided by a silly TV show) to elect him on the strength he was an ace businessman when he was a total tool of one who if he had sat on the $400M he inherited he really would be a billionaire.

You seemed to be suggesting resignation, I never mentioned exoneration. In less than 10 months, a new mutating virus was met with a vaccine which was researched, invented and manufactured here. Often vaccines take years before trials. UK government's stewardship is admired by a grateful world. But so what?

No you didn't use the word exoneration. I had to guess at what you were getting at because of the literacy levels of your post. I still don't understand what you mean by "resignation" now in this one. But never mind.
Uk Gov's stewardship is admired by a "grateful world". The first vaccine was developed in Belgium wasn't it from memory? Not "researched, invented and manufactured here" under the eyes of a "grateful" world!
But I said anyway we were doing well on the vaccine front.
The "so what" is not a summary of my views on our vaccine programme, but an invitation to you to make a point about what we had been talking about.
I would have thought that was bloody obvious.
I despair at why you continue to try and turn my every post into a contest Barney; when you are so unequal to the task.

Joke Hedda.
we don't know when anyone is joking these days
On Parler they are literally saying (and believing it) that Trump has had a Biden face transplant and it's him who will be inaugurated.
He must have had a giant liposuction episode as well

It is very possible that he has twirled his hair into a Biden mask.

I thought Parler was taken down?
Biden is back on or going to be on again shortly.
However I want to know what is on Hunter Biden's laptop.
