Now US President at the third attempt, Biden may not be the person to unite America - deemed to be the most critical need. Having spent decades in the Senate, he admits to often taking the wrong side with his Catholic background giving him strong views on abortion. And on racial segregation, which he supported. Biden has been called a political mediocrity and, with few major successes behind him, will be hard pressed to close the divide and to combat the virus at the same time.

47 years or so in the Senate and yes the only thing he did was allow the unborn to be murdered.
Yes, as you said on a different thread Green Man, Biden didn't win the election. Harris did - and will become the first female president, with her own agenda, in four years time.

Biden was privileged to work under Obama, an intellectual giant and Nobel Prize winner. A Promised Land, Osama's excellent and highly successful memoir, barely mentions Biden; their relationship was functional rather than warm. Obama is said to be more surprised than anyone, about Biden's elevation - achieved largely at the expense of an eccentric and divisive opponent, not on personal accomplishments.
That "hairy legs" stuff does come across as a little "odd" I must admit GM. But maybe he is speaking from a more innocent age when not everything is twisted through the moral panic of "abuse".
Also, if he has the super smart young Harris then a bit of cognitive decline around the edges won't matter much. And I am not convinced the bloke in that bookstore pic him looks like a total set up to me!

Obama is a bright but an "intellectual giant" Jesus! do you want me to send you a reading list to find out what that means!?
So the man Obama trusted as his VP for 8 years he is surprised to see elevated as he is not accomplished enough.

Obama looked genuinely delighted for him, to me, but since when do we have to be best friends with colleagues?
For the first time in over 10 years, the White House has control of Congress giving Biden enormous power for change. Just like in 1932, when the Democrats took power at another time of political crisis and began America's rise to global power status - for the next 20 years until 1952. That 20 year Democratic dominance (except for a 2 year hiatus) defined the US as the driver of world progress; however this control was founded on an incongruous coalition in which the 'solid South' provided the necessary votes in Congress. Jim Crow segregation was the price. FDR was President for most of this successful period, serving three terms. Biden will find if difficult to join his league, in only one term. Although the cards and political system favour him - and the Republicans are in disarray.

as a team she aided.
Biden comes across as a safe pair of hands, probably that's his appeal.
40 years in office means his constituents kept voting for him..he must have been doing something right.
Compare it to the last president with a litany of business failures and bankruptcies (mind you I know people who think that is great business).
When did VP's ever do anything startling?
# Although I bet Harris will be a very different VP.

The lady that wanted to lock Brett Kavanaugh up for nothing.
