Paid to be positive... 3 Years, 3 Months ago
The madness escalates.

They are now going to spend £350 million a week (isn't that the sum we are about to save from leaving the EU so maybe it will balance out ho ho...) on paying every unemployed person and student to go out, contract Covid and recieve £500.

They will then have to trust that the beneficiaries are isolating unless they have been keeping the Covid Marshall army very quiet?

And maybe they will isolate mainly; just helping a couple of mates who are struggling with drug debts out by coughing over them...

If they are caught out and refuse to pay they can then presumably send them to Court where they can tremble before the justice system in 2026...

Your link requires registration and your post omits the rationale for the proposed payment - which is that low paid workers can't afford to self-isolate. Help to do so seems appropriate, for their sake and that of others.

Looks like the Gov have backtracked on this now anyway.

As for low paid workers not being able to isolate - who are they exactly? We are locked down. What workers are you talking about? Supermarket staff, nurses and teachers get sick pay. The remainder who can't work from home will be on furlough money...

Crack dealers may struggle to isolate currently I suppose....

No, not crack dealers - those workers mentioned here, for example

www.ons.gov.uk/employmentandlabourmarket...pending/2018-03-28#:

There's about 2 million of them; and then there's the many categories of vulnerable, disadvantaged, disabled etc.

Great! All the youngsters (who mostly get no symptoms anyway) will have infection parties, and soon they will all be immune, making it safer for the rest of us.
Genius.

Fucking hell you are so confused Barney...

I am perfectly aware that millioms struggle on the minimum wage.

What the hell has that got to do with my thread!?

I admit to getting overwhelmed by this virus problem and how to solve it.

We've had 2 stimulus payments here in Oz..for some reason they get gobbled up by bills even though I no longer work (but I'm a carer for an aged invalid relative).

Think another is due soon..not a lot, $250.

I recall how then Oz PM Kevin Rudd, as the 2007/2008 financial meltdown hit the US and began to spread worldwide, he immediately gave a stimulus payment of $1500 to everyone (about 1000 quid then) and exhorted everyone to "spend spend spend" as the Bogan Mob (Aussie Chavs..nasty I know because I was included) went on a huge Giant TV etc spree and businesses country-wide were saved (and their billionaire owners rejoiced) and Kev was hailed as A Genius by economists worldwide.

# Rudd was influenced by the fact that as a kid, his father died and the family were kicked off their QLD share crop farm and the family lived in a car for a time . Now he's a multi-millionaire with a wife worth about $120M ironically, from owning numerous UK employment agencies.

But the conclusion is : despite their claims of how evil it is..Socialism (or aspects of it) seems to have been bailing out Capitalism around the world for 100 years !!

My apologies. It wasn't clear that you're perfectly aware.

My apologies too for my irritable response.
