TOPIC: Is it just me...

Is it just me... 3 Years ago
or does the quiet, peaceful funeral look FAR more classy than the awful State funerals we've got used to? If I was Queen (I AM a queen but no capital letter) I'd demand a similar funeral when I pop my clogs. My other thought; Philip was very much the same as Albert was for Victoria only, thank God, he was around for Liz for far longer; a terrific influence; a splendid support.

I did tell my very close friends to bury me in the backyard when I’m gone. There’s no way I’m losing my place next to decking and close to the duck pond.

I want the complete library played of Waylon Jennings and Ted Nugent and a bbq with variety of deer, sheep, duck, chicken, lamb, veal, beef, squirrel, pigeon, goat and rabbit.

One of the many things the royals need to do is lose their addiction to medals. No one outside the military cares, and I suspect plenty inside the military find some of those who have practically a chestful of medals quite laughable. Even when they can't wear their uniforms they still can't resist slapping all the badges on.

Break the connection completely with the military, take civilian jobs and start acting like you're no longer in the 19th century.

Yes I think this is correct and I am also struck at the fact that he gave up what was tipped to be a glittering naval career for Liz. If anything Philip allowed The Queen even more limelight than Albert did Victoria, with his Greet Exhibition and restless spirit. Like Dennis with Thatcher as well - it is positive to see men adopting the support role with dignity.

I find a good rose goes best with squirrel GM; no cheap nasty stuff though..

Grill with tomatoes and just a suspicion of fennel..

Well you’ve proven to me that you have taste; I tell you what you can have my partner after I’m gone.

Thank you GM but I already have one and think that two would be too much like hard work...

Medal addiction is rife and meaningless, with Anne a good example. Though hard-working, Anne has never been in a conflict or served in the forces. Yet her medal tally is enormous.

Of course the medals & the pomp & ceremony are ridiculous and anachronistic. What would be the point of a Royal Family otherwise in this day and age? They aren't going to lead at an Agincourt are they...

You make a choice: is the national discourse and tone improved by the anachronism of monarchy? I would say yes; now more than ever before.
