Does he not realise that an effectivly terrorised populace won't give a flying shit if the PM broke some lobbying rules to get ventilators to the UK.

They will see him as Churchill! What a moron...

Brilliant GM. There has never been any evidence for masks ( common sense guv 'innit...) and in fact their effectiveness in surgery is highly contested as well:
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4480558/
If they do offer protection for surgeons/patients - and it is a big if - this would be through droplet dispersal downwards not outwards as an aerosol - as Covid spreads, i.e the surgeon has his face close to open bodies and droplets could conceivably fall into the open wound.
Unless you are chatting to an unmasked midget who is pressed against your body staring upwards with an open mouth, masks do f-all to protect against Covid for either party.
I do talk to midgets this way on ocassion; but always wear a mask.

When will he realise that the red wall former labour supporters don't give a toss about identity politics and just want to be listened to, not told that they are too stupid or don't know what they are doing (re:brexit). Labour should be questioning why we are releasing from lockdown too early. Couldn't shops have opened weeks ago. What are the chances of catching covid by walking past someone momentarily in a shop whilst wearing masks.
Exactly the same chance as not wearing masks.
Not really, masks help prevent droplets containing the virus been sprayed around. At the start of the pandemic they said that there is no point in wearing masks because we were already having to socially distance 2m from each other. Beyond 2m they don't offer any further protection, but when hospitality opened and shops needed to allow more people in, the rule of 1m+ mitigation was brought in (i.e.1m+ a mask, or side by side, or outside). Surgeons wear masks. They don't wear them for fun.
I should have been clear.
FFP3/N95 properly fitted and sealed by someone trained to do so are very effective indeed.
I have had this type since the beginning.
This is not what most people have.
Surgeons masks are actually just to stop them spitting into your open wound during surgery. They are not designed to stop covid.
Nothing with ear fastenings stop the virus. Nothing with gaps around the edges. Nothing with holes bigger than the virus (That's almost everything) will work.
The very minimal protection is cancelled out by all the face touching and cross contamination.
I am absolutely in favour of masks that do the job, but the
bit of old sock dangling miserably over your ears is no use at all, and it is outrageous that the public are led to believe that they are much help.
When someone gobs big droplets at you, the mask might catch some, (ugh) but the aerosol virus particles will be going straight through.
