if we hadn't already sensed it (and it dawned on me in 2001 as I stood in the Old Bailey) THE END OF THE WORLD IS NIGH!

Some Midland dwelling friends of ours just popped in on the way back from France France and commented how high the river was after not watching any news for two weeks.
I think they could see a few shocks on the journey home.

We watched the excellent, apolcalyptic "Children of Men" last night, and according to the story, the end of the world starts in 2008 after a huge flu epidemic that renders human beings infertile.

I heard on ex-TizWoz Gordon Astley's radio prog, rumours that some local shopkeepers in these flooded areas are starting to charge

Surely even your ego can't imagine that the end of the world revolves around you?

Still watching the water rise here, nowhere near as bad as most though.
