TOPIC: Keir Starmer on Afghanistan
#212174
Keir Starmer on Afghanistan 2 Years, 7 Months ago
I could write his scripts - the words of someone who doesn't care about the people but who knows what to say that chimes with the media picture of what voters want. I think they are wrong, actually, and the majority of Brits wouldn't want a single Afghan in our country now we've "taken back control" but wouldn't dare to admit to it.

That's the whole problem with Labour & Starmer in a nutshell: he speaks for a London liberal elite and actually believes a majority in the rest of the country think the same way.

Starmer is like some weird puppet opposition leader wheeled out to make a non too threatening statement whilst Boris still runs amok,

I don't care who you vote for but even if your preferred party is in power you should wish for a strong Opposition to keep them on their toes.

It's why I love the proportional representation, preferential Oz system that never allows a minority part to win (as the UK system always does)

Current state: Government has a one seat majority and the Upper House where all legislation must pass can be dominated by Greens or independents.

# be interesting to see how Starmer fares at the upcoming Labour conference

I would love to see PR given a go in this country; the argument against it that it doesn't lead to strong leadership can be re-phrased as it allows for more democratically checked and controlled leadership.

However, I can't help wondering (admittedly from a position of total ignorance) whether PR has in some way led to the ridiculous Aus over-reaction to Covid infections? Are they all trying to out virtue signal one another with their "zero Covid" pipedreams? With no one leader having the power to say enough.
