Robert Peston has helped me understand why the MSM did not hold the Gov to account through the Covid crisis or ask any of the obvious questions.

He was asked on GB news why he never asked the Gov in the "lobby sessions" a single question on what empirical evidence they based the efficacy of restrictions on and what data showed about the damage restrictions and lockdowns will have? What will cause more death and harm?

His answer was - paraphrasing - can you imagine if I had done this the vitriol and hatred that would have come my way? Brave PM does what he can and I question this? We all had to work in this reality at the time.

I wish I was as good as GM at loading videos on here because it is astonishing. He was too worried to ask or write these questions because he may have become a victim of a mass movement against him; presumably worrying for his career.

I don't think it is unreasonable to sugggest he would have been far from alone in MSM here or around the globe. He has unwittingly (and with little apparent self awareness from the video) revealed there is no longer press freedom in the mainstream. Has instant media and "twitter judgments" ruined this for good?

This is why we never heard the obvious & intelligent questions being asked outside of this site or by one or two notable exceptions such as Peter Hitchens. No wonder most people just suck it all up: the cowardly media is now an agent of power not a check on it.

And how many other public figures who parrot the mainstream mantras on Covid won't publicly ask the questions Peston also feared to?

Fear that your career will be lost is very powerful. How have we got in such an unhealthy state as a society? My post, of course, is not just limited to the subject of Covid (yawn) 19.

Maybe Peston and his friends could takeover a channel on Freeview and be cutting edge.
