A disgraceful TV show on Savile 1 Week, 2 Days ago
We all realise that you can make any show about a dead person and won't be sued. But this was so obviously dedicated to one agenda that it made terrible television. Anybody could have told producers that, before DNA, pregnant girls often tried to blame wealthy stars instead of their spotty boyfriend. Even to their parents (in fact, usually to irate parents). We all knew Jimmy liked young girls - he made an image of it - and we were all certain he'd never look at anyone under age (16). We all, including royalty, knew he did an enormous amount for charity, raising millions. Whether or not we liked his image (I didn't) there was no doubt at all his reason for charitable acts was NOT in order to seduce people. Only after his death was that suggested. Of course he was a groper and a tweaker; many were back then. These days it is attempted rape; those days it was just Jim being Jim. Virtually no accusations of rape. Virtually no paternity claims. These days DNA can prove innocence. Police forces rarely dropped profitable prosecutions unless they all felt there was no truth in them - even then, no matter how famous people were. Shockingly bad programme made by talentless people. The one delight was the near total absence of MWT - apart from two brief soundless shots. Someone at ITV obviously said "remove any words spoken by MWT".

I found it a chore to watch. Nothing was new whatsoever it my opinion someone watched a bunched of archive documentaries and did a cut and paste job on them to make a 45 min documentary. I found it odd that they didn't use MWT he was the ITV golden boy. The copper from Operation Yewtree added nothing of value to the programme.

We only watched Savile back then because there was nothing else to watch on TV. There were tons of board games based on TV shows, after awhile you would end up realising that they are were the same games but just rebranded. You played them or you would be even more bored.

I have no idea how he got the Jim'll Fix It or Top Of The Pops gigs because he looked so old even back then.

What producer did "Wotsit from Sparks" tell, and why wasn't he on the show confirming it?

As for the ludicrous idea of a hundred children running around the studios unfettered, and getting smashed in the bar-

Nothing new then?

I'll have to rely on opinion and reviews like this in the morning. I won't watch them, I say them as there are others still to come. Their obsession hasn't let up has it?

A couple of months ago I was told these programmes were looking for permission to film at his grave. Excuse the pun but, over my dead body would I or the cemetery ever allow this.

Anxiety is creeping in as we get nearer to the 29th. One day, lets hope we can all have peace.

Not just nothing new, Amanda, but quite a lot that must have persuaded thinking people there was serious memory adaptation going on. I'm sure most of the interviewees have persuaded themselves it was all absolutely true whereas clearly nothing of substance was found. Take the girl who complained that she'd been touched up. I'm sure she was. Jimmy used to do a lot of that goosing and tickling. So did many people. You can see in the footage she's reacting just as children do when they are being tickled. In hindsight, she has decided it was abuse. Did she complain to the floor manager? Quite possibly - and his reaction would have been "Oh for heaven's sake, grow up". But these days she was virtually raped. I remember in days gone by parents used to take baths with their children. I cannot think of anything more normal and healthy. But as long as 30 years ago that became a sin if not a crime (remember the newscaster who got "done" for having photos of her child in the bath?).

Jimmy was definitely a groper and tickler. I suspect he also quite liked teenage girls and had the odd consensual affair. But he was not a paedophile or a rapist. If Karma kicked in for any commentator who mentioned or boosted the scandal, they would find out what it is like for a living person or for relatives and friends of the dead accused. As happened to my friend Paul Gambaccini. When I moaned on and on to him about it, I warned him Karma might arrive, as it did. And I suspect the lack of MWT in the show may well indicate that ITV has been made aware of the truth about the man and, as a result, are gently trying to distance themselves before the scandal erupts.

The TV show HAD to admit that shows like Jim'll Fix It were his idea and hugely popular. Might that not have been a better reason for making them than having contact with potential victims? Really this disgrace of a show deserves all the ordure that should be heaped on it.

Funny how ITV failed to mention Carl Beech. Wonder why.

Why can't people just keep their hands to themselves ?

A lot of women didn't keep their hands to themselves. It was considered a bit of a larf amongst the women on the shop floor at the place where I worked back in the Seventies to touch up the blokes, most of whom came out with a witty retort or responded in kind, much to the delight of the women.

The culture was very different back then, and to be a bit 'handy' didn't make someone an abuser. The boundaries of what constitutes sexual abuse have widened considerably over the years, I suspect because of mission creep by vocal feminists.

No-one seems to mention the role of (mainly) female groupies from that era, who following pop and rock stars around in the vague hope that they might get to sleep with them. Maybe the eagerness of some women to be 'abused' is inconvenient and needs to be swept under the carpet?

My guess is that Jimmy Savile availed himself of these offers, as many stars did, and was convicted by documentary for doing so. How so many rock stars have hitherto escaped unscathed is anyone's guess.

I wonder if part of the reason why he was convicted and others have escaped was because he was a bit "naff" (like Rolf Harris) and not "sexy" (like Bill Wyman, etc). The "sexy" ones are allowed to have questionable sex lives (yawn, nothing to see here) but the ordinary looking blokes off the telly (and presumed to have pots of cash) must be sex offenders, so that storyline will be imposed on them and run with for cash. Or is that too simplistic?

I wouldn't know about the culture in the 70's however in the 80's there wasn't groping going where I worked unless the staff were actually courting another member of staff. I did see groping and I was groped numerous times by drunk women or some gay guys, I just hated being groped full stop. When you look at the groupies for bands like Bay City Rollers for example most of them look like the same age as the band themselves.

Savile wasn't a rock star and he wasn't even good looking either. I can't imagine any woman wanted to be willing participant for Savile.

Unless he used the same tactics like Max Clifford they do him a sexual favour the girl could meet her favourite band or get her some band merchandise ?

Jimmy was not convicted Jo; that's the point. He was dead. Easy enough to inflate or manufacture claims against a dead person. Especially if there's money in it.

I never got how and Bill Wyman got away with it. I haven't been a Rolling Stones since then, I remember selling all my Rolling Stones stuff.

Convicted by documentary, as Sheba said. I was responding to her post.

So.....anything new like video footage, dna anything or all rehashed stories and some new questionable word only stories.

I cannot view the documentary, so I am wondering. The most evidence before was a TOTPS tickling thing. Not repeated I might add as before Jimmy seemed to sail close to the wind which was expected tv anyway. But things that did not go down well do not appear to be repeated.. And TV always has that risque element until Covid, both male and female. But I see Jimmy as good fun but not this groper or anything and all for the camera and good fun. Thus my curiosity. Yes I have come to like the Jimmy Savile I found as a person. I watch little TV so never liked or disliked him before.

having spent half my life in nightclubs (couldn't bear to go to one now) and many of them gay clubs and being, even if I say it myself reasonably good looking and looking far younger than I was *then/) I recall being groped 100s of times (and yes, by the occasional female).

Being a tad prudish and not terribly tactile I always found it annoying so I suppose I was sexually assaulted dozens of times.

But it was accepted as normal and anyone who denies it including the media (and police) are simply lying.

Watch corny old British comedy TV shows or Carry On movies.

## After one nightclub visit I was in fact raped by three men after being drugged..beaten and thrown from a car into the gutter from which I learned 2 things : true victims do suffer from guilt that they are responsible for putting themselves in the situation (something largely absent from many Savile accusers) and 2. genuine victims never ever forget a single frigging detail of their ordeal and "repressed memory" is bogus.

### and I hate that term "survivor"

The Carl Beech case probably did rattle more minds than the media cares to admit or reveal. Opinions and beliefs that have taken root and become entrenched on shaky grounds, have a compelling need for reassurance and reminders that they have not become isolated from the former general consensus. Only the accuser, the accused or witnesses can ever know what happened or did not happen. With no reliable and solid evidence, how can anyone else safely say that they know the truth?

I was going through some boxes of old music magazines tonight to give. I was flicking through threw each magazine briefly, the Dom Lawson articles are very well written.

Dom asked Savile if he could see Iron Maiden and he did. Iron Maiden even gave him the Jim'll Fix It medal and an Iron Maiden gold disc.

I didn't know he was Jim'll Fix It and by that time in the 80's, I dropped school fully was working full time. I came by these two articles from 2011 or so.

This one is written by Dom Lawson. www.theguardian.com/music/musicblog/2011...m-fix-it-iron-maiden
