Which, subtext, means (at 84) of Old Age. That can really be aggravated by viruses. Not good to get pneumonia at 40; it's lethal at 84. Try telling that to the media.

Yes, but there is a difference between slipping away quietly and dying in agony gasping for breath.
If you are not expected to die soon, and are in reasonable health, it is not "old age" even if you are old.

I don't think anyone should be dying from catching a variant of the one we are all vaccinated against, when they could have changed the vaccine to suit (Simple, they said) but didn't.


I couldn't think who Colin Powell was for a moment because I read it as Coll-in, instead of Coal-in.

No Honey I agree and nobody would wish death on anyone, especially not a painful death (though I'm sure Powell had a quiet, drugged death). But the point is - 450 people A DAY die in the UK every day from cancer. If 118 tested positive for Covid within 28 days of dying, they are counted as Covid deaths. But are they? Did Covid even contribute to their deaths? I suspect not, in most cases. Of course we know it's not ALL 118 that were Cancer deaths. Some may have been sepsis. A few had strokes. Some had heart attacks. A few took drug overdoses. There are road accidents. Not 118 died FROM Covid. They may have died WITH Covid. That is the point.

The point is really the media though Honey isn't it? Making it a Covid plague headline. Before Covid there were always cases of the very elderly entering hospital, picking up other infections and dying.

Powell had stage 4 blood cancer and Parkinsons; he was already a very ill man.I would be interested to know what "covid complications" even means.

Let's hope his passing was, in the event, more peaceful than you imagine.

I hope so. I know he was already ill, but this is exactly the sort of person we had the flipping vaccine to protect, and now everybody seems to have forgotten that the vaccines need modifying to be effective, and just shrug off the deaths as if nothing can be done.

If they have the means to make the vaccine effective for vulnerable people, and they choose not to, well that's fair enough, and you can call it life, but then what was the point of the never ending lockdowns and threat of arrest?

Any minute now they will be saying that the hospitals are chockka, everyone's dying, and we need to lock down again.

But Covid was never any nastier than a new variant of flu; except for media hype. So Colin was as protected as anyone but if he caught Covid, as many have even after vaccine, it would affect him slightly. I got flu a couple of times after the flu jab; it was brilliant, turning 4-5 days into 24 hours except the wrong vaccine year when it lasted 5 days as usual. But I wasn't almost dead anyway from other illnesses as Powell was.

Tonight BBC News - no mention of Covid in Powell's death. Someone reads this site.

Vaccines are always being improved..sadly too late for many.

Powell had a good innings unlike the many Vietnamese and Iraqis his actions aided in killing.

84 years of age is the average lifespan is my family.
