Ch4 DISTORTION of interviews! Police complain to Ofcom! 16 Years, 8 Months ago
My God, it's come out at last.

But, judging from the reaction to my two awful programmes, 80% of viewers have not been fooled. The vast majority of responses I got said "we cannot believe how blatant the cheating was".

Best moment was when the whiny Hornby asked me (in a taxi) "Do you really believe all this interest in you is because you were a celebrity? It's all because of your crimes" to which I answered "Yes, I suppose you'd be making this show if I was a bank manager"!

DOH!

The most awful footage I have seen is where you are openly harassed by a Sun reporter and a former 'victim', who shakes your hand then refuses to let go. I actually laughed out loud when they ask 'Why are you smiling Jonathan?' To which you reply 'Because I've never seen him before in my life!' How many non-celebrities would be hounded so publically upon their release? None. You came away from that encounter very well in my eyes..but I still believe the Channel 4 show was a mistake.

Very little choice Chrissy - it was Ch4 by the way - they were going to do a show anyway, promised if I cooperated it would be supportive (pull the other one!) and I knew I'd be better off until the News of the World were tipped off by someone ("not me" squealed the director) that I'd be in the park doing an interview and they could sneak a long shot of me to make a story stand up (it didn't - they had to doctor it).

After that I withdrew all cooperation!

That is awful!! Sorry btw I meant Channel Four. That was harrassment...by definition of the new law.. However I can understand you didn't take it any further. You did alright by it. Although I was apalled at the tactics ..but not surprised.

In many ways, you were always onto at least something of a winner with that programme despite Ch4's tactics, JK.

No-one could have been persuaded of your guilt, having watched the performances of your desperate false accusers. There are always those whose limited brain cells move in time with the tabloids, but they'll always assume you are guilty anyway.

First, hello to JK and all who post here. This is my first post, and I hope it's just one of many.

I am left wondering how/why so many people believe what they see on television. Virtually every thing that is broadcast is EDITED to make it more interesting. Only the sensational parts, or those elements that fit the directorial brief, are left in.

BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky, all have their own agenda, just like newspapers do. I've lost count of the times I've complained to the BBC about its political bias.

There are no media outlets that tell the whole truth... Until today, when I was reading other posts, I had no idea that JK was acquitted of many of the charges against him. I don't recall it ever being reported. Not a sensational news story.

Welcome Hole!

Yes I've been a part of the media for 42 years and I know where every single body is buried.

We always knew a good story was the key but I never realised it influenced justice, politics, society - until it happened to me.

I feel like Winston Smith.

Media = Mind Control.

News papers - overtly biassed towards one political party or another. They attempt to get us voting the way they want us to.

The Sun and Daily Mail are fine examples of this.

Radio - historically dictated what music we should listen to and buy, who should be a star and who would flop.

Television - a disgraceful mix of the two.

Combined, they endeavour to make us comform to their view of the world.

But thanks to the internet, we have a new freedom. We can listen to new music, read news with a different slant, watch videos that tell a different truth.

Sadly this rattles the powers, so they seek new ways to control us... ID cards for example, and taking our DNA. Excuse me JK, but taking the DNA of our children without permission, is far worse a crime than anything you have served time for

ID cards, we were told, would protect us from terrorists. That changed, and ID cards were supposed to protect us from [illegal] immigrants. But now the ID card is for what...? Keeping an eye on us!

JK, could you remind us who will be exempt from forcibly handing over their DNA (I think it is: politicians, the rich/famous, and their children!).

Sorry, I'm ranting. But let me sum up by saying that I beleive that anyone who believes what they see, hear, or read has a serious dearth of brain cells. Always check the facts, and check them again. Just because 1000 people say something is so, doesn't make it so.

What's that clock tower at the Houses of Parliament called? It ain't Big Ben!

Welcome, the Hole.

I must ad that I don`t believe that even many people at the papers believe in what they are writing.

A reasoned article I find quite easy to spot and rare, but with regards to the internet, do you not feel that the papers are themselves using their self styled(job discription of course for Devils Advocates)coluomnists, to create extra debates, which then carry on to the internet in the same way that the all day new channels are starting to rely on home-made video footage from mobile phones?

Thank you for your warm welcome...

Yes, a well-reasoned article is rare, and therefore easy to spot. Very rare, alas.

I do a bit of writing for a specialist magazine (I am one of the regular columnists, no less), and believe me, if I dare stray from editorial policy, or hint at stoking up debate, my work will not be accepted. Even when there is plenty of evidence that what I have written is the truth, populist belief has to take presidence, EVEN IF IT'S WRONG.

Sadly, too many people do believe what they see/hear/read. I confess to finding that disturbing, especially in these times when our freedom is being hacked away little by little, day by day.

We need another revolution in this country. We need mass civil disobedience so that politicians know that we will not tolerate the loss of our liberty. We have to be thoroughly un-English; dare I say it, we ought to be a little more French and stand up to the government.

(When we win, we can be English again... Can I say that "English", I mean, or must I say "British"? I don't want the Though Police knocking on my door!)

The Thought Police won't come knocking, Hole. Not just yet anyway!

It's uncanny. I was formulating a post in my head which was almost word for word the one you have just made.

It isn't the steady systematic dismantling of our freedom which disturbs me so much as the apathy of the British public, lying back and allowing it to happen, seemingly unconcerned.

You are quite right. Say what you like about the French, there is no way they would allow it to happen to them.

I'm with you both but it's not a national thing.

I remember in the 60's (you're both too young) when we kids would march, protest and shout about anything and even wrote and recorded songs about "someone's dropped a bomb somewhere contaminating atmosphere and blackening the sky"...

Sadly those same kids are now in THEIR 60's and very few dare write lyrics like that or "police will inflate and the law says it's fine to accomodate tabloids with a solid headline"...

Or play such outrageous comments.

We are way too apathetic, Anthony. You are so right.

JK, I've been listening to "It's good news week" today. My son loves it; we were singing together. (HE was also singing "Vile Pervert", much to my wife's embarrassment! Don't know how he heard that... he must have listened to the CD when we weren't around).

Anyway, we aren't allowed to protest, anymore. We need permission. No permission = arrest and DNA taken.

I'm going to have to get a new passport before all this biometric testing comes in. Then I'll be able to leave the country (for good) without my identity being stolen by the authorities.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but sometime I do fear for the future.

JK, write a new protest song for us, please!

The Hole.
