Moronic variant 2 Years, 4 Months ago
Am I being stupid?

If this new variant is milder and causes less problems, and is going to take over as the dominant strain, isn't that a good thing that should be encouraged?

You would think so wouldn't you...But infections have been treated as if they were deaths for two years - so why should they change things now...?

Been looking at South African news outlets. I can't death stats but there are cases; there are cases of flu and cold every years.

You have to remember the diseases, HIV and other tropical diseases in SA - a lot people live in slums there.

www.timeslive.co.za/news/south-africa/20...tients-who-official/

www.timeslive.co.za/news/south-africa/20...ays-angry-ramaphosa/

www.thesouthafrican.com/news/ramaphosa-b...ming-sa-covid-fight/

Even SA health officials stated Omicron is a mild variant, like most viruses they get weaker and immune systems are doing their jobs for nearly everyone.

SA is such a beautiful country and yet world is destroying it even more by screwing it more and more.

Funny, those who I know personally are not vaccinated are more healthy to whose who I know are.

I suppose healthier people feel that they don't need the vaccination?

My point exactly. I don't know many old people with aggravating conditions who either choose not to be vaccinated or cant be bothered, but lots of younger super healthy ones.

So the unvaccinated are bound to be healthier in the first place, aren't they, vaccine problems aside?

Not sure about this Honey. I think the healthier on the whole take more care about their health; and so are more likely to take up the vaccine?

Not nearly as lethal as other viruses. Correct.

But deaths are now getting close to 5.5 million.

In every single territory on the planet.

Oh that's a good point, Wyot, yes indeed. Probably both are true then.

Figures are so complicated.

Interestingly (to me anyway!) I have just checked out the CDC data for flu deaths 2019-20. 35 000 0000 infections 20 000 deaths. A mortality rate of 0.05% - precisely the same as for Covid in the 70 + bracket.

www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/2019-2020.html

I realise, of course, that other factors are in play with Covid; it spreads farther than flu and infects more people playing a part in more deaths. But on an individual basis it would seem it is indeed no more dangerous than flu.

I wonder -if we greatly eliminated all the lifestyle factors that increase the mortality risk with Covid - if in fact it may be significantly less dangerous individually than flu.

The answer to Covid maybe just be for us to sort ourselves out and stop abusing our bodies.

Yes Barney but thought comes from description; it doesn't end with it.

Yes Covid is not flu. It is much more contagious, primarily because with flu the infected are always knocked out, and not wandering around infecting people.

But you have to ask more questions:

1. Covid preys on existing morbidities - age and health. How many of the 5 million were near death anyway? How many simply involved Covid but it was not the primary cause? What is the amount of excess death in "normal times". Much less than 5 million.

2. Lockdowns come at a price. They ruin economies and take lives. The effects will run for many years

3. Given this, and after a cost benefit analysis (ignored worldwide), is the threat of Covid marked enough to justify the restrictions? (This can only be argued if it can be established clearly that restrictions reduce deaths involving Covid - which has never been estabished satisfactorily)

If you were to engage with any of the points above (which you have pointedly failed to do since March 2019 - and to be fair to you a majority of mankind as well!) you would be exercising intelligence on the subject.

Regardless of the outcome and opinion you come to.

Boris does not care above the economy, lockdowns or our health or deaths.

To "Build Back Better" you need to destroy everything first !

NHS is completely fucked, pubs are closing and business owners are scared of losing their business. If there is social distancing in restaurant's or pubs again I won't be using them !

Mark Drakeford is calling out for a 2-tier society and lockdowns.
