TOPIC: Those lovely tabloids
#21623
Those lovely tabloids 16 Years, 8 Months ago
Inspired by the huge interest in my photo of the acquittal certificate, I thought I'd put up in the PHOTOS section an edited copy (you'll understand why) of my Bank Statement for the last week of April 2005.

I was released in a blaze of expected publicity at the end of March 2005. The dear old Sun (where I wrote a weekly page for almost 10 years) conducted a massive campaign - DO NOT BUY THIS MAN'S MUSIC - listing all my hits with information and so on.

The result? Well, let's just say it was a rather interesting week of income - as you can see.

This illustration is to show the power of the media BUT the punters often don't quite react as the tabloids intend. Sometimes it's "Oh, Una Paloma Blanca - I loved that; I'll pick up a copy at lunchtime".

If you can keep your balance in the face of a storm, you may find the future is quite different from the anticipated one.

You can never tell someone not to buy something, it allways has the opposite effect.

Mike Reid said"Don`t buy Relax", by Frankie. Yup , good one Mike.

I`m afraid we all said" Buy My Generation" by the Zimmers. Bad one.

In fact a message to all, DO NOT BOOK MY BAND OR BUY MY MP.3s, THEY ARE AWFUL!.

(you learn something everyday in the Daily Soaraway "Your Views", N.B.no free DVD included this week, due to the wrong kind of leaves being read daily in between the lines...)

Was this part of The Sun's 'Don't Give King A Thing' campaign? Perhaps you should phone them up Jonathan and ask if they'd do another one!!

That was indeed the campaign Chrissy - they have never really understood their readers since I (and Kelvin) left!

It really does highlight the contempt they have for their readership. I still believe no-one in Liverpool buys it since their dreadful coverage of the Hillsborough tragedy in 1989.

Well the only thing going for the Sun is that you need an average reading age of less than 10 to enjoy its full and indepth coverage of world news:woohoo:
Still people aren't totally as stupid as Murdoch sometimes belives. They buy it to brighten up an otherwise boring day,and can finish it in a short break, unlike say the Times.
Doesn't mean though that they'll agree with it's stance on all issues...your average working man may like the 'b00bs' but not the politics. And he knows when things go too far.

The Sun is openly on sale in Liverpool and I have seen people buying it though from what I can see from building sites, The Star is clearly more popular.

However when the Hillsborough anniversary comes round you do see loads of stickers and posters demanding that The Sun be boycotted. So, feelings still run deep for many over The Suns' "coverage" of that tragedy.
