TOPIC: My letter to Mayor Khan
#222917
My letter to Mayor Khan 1 Year, 9 Months ago
Dear Mayor,
Please forward this to anyone who you feel might find it useful.

NICK EPHGRAVE.
I see you are considering appointing this officer to the post of Commissioner of the Met. I feel you should be made aware of his past history.

As Chief Constable of Surrey he was in charge during Operation Ravine, a failed attempt to convict me of crimes that never took place, described at my trial by the judge HHJ Taylor as a “debacle” after I was declared Not Guilty of several claims and any future trial banned. But my prosecution was possibly justifiable though wrong, and simply badly mishandled.

However, three innocent men, questioned or arrested during the investigation, lost their lives as a direct result of the botched police behaviour.

I complained to Ephgrave, who refused to investigate - even though the deaths had not been referred to the (then) IPCC, as they should have been. After the “debacle” was over I wrote to him suggesting he should resign. The story was carried in the National Papers and the day after saying, to a Sunday paper, that he had no intention of resigning, he applied for a job at The Met and was immediately transferred.

This is absolutely typical of the main problem with British police.
Those at the top are great at surviving and getting promoted but useless at correcting or preventing rogue cops (I believe the vast majority are fine) and, as a result, defend or protect officers like Wayne Couzens. Under Ephgrave the Met will become even more horrendous. As the media will doubtless reveal.
Best wishes,
Jonathan King.

Who knows whether or not Sadiq Khan will pay any attention to this but the general public clearly ARE - over 14,000 views to this thread in ten minutes.

I've had a reply from the Mayor's office saying my letter has been passed onto the Mayor.
I suspect Ephgrave will not get the job.
