TOPIC: Smoking Ban

Smoking Ban 18 Years, 1 Month ago
I was in Eire, on the day the smoking ban was imposed over there, and today it is introduced in Scotland, although it would appear to be a more severe ban.
Whilst I respect the right of people not wishing to inhale harmful benzines, co2 and cancerous materials, I do believe it is peoples right`s to choose to keep up with this practice should they desire.
Once something has been created, you can`t suddenly de-invent it with a government bill.
Smoking is without doubt a drain on the health service, but it is also a huge duty revenue for the government.
The sweeping effects of these increasing bans will just drive it underground, and probably eventually create a further contraband problem for HM customs.
Going back to Eire, all of the bar staff, were taking in turns to stand on a roof by a fire escape in order to smoke.
I will be intrigued to see the first Scot, to get the

Apparently Lorry drivers are not allowed to smoke in their own cabins, even when they are on their own, because it is considered to be their place of work.

How ridiculous is that. The next thing we will know is that the police will be surrounding buildings where people are smoking shouting into loud speakers "come out with your hands up and put your cigarettes out".

We, in the Western world cannot live without either.
It`s all about jobs isn`t it?
The first move against smoking, that I recall, came when the smoking advertising was removed from formula 1 racing, followed by the government health warning on fag packets.(I think that is the right order).
I am not averse to the right for people to not have smokey hair and bad chemicles in their bodies whilst they are in a public place, I am concerned as to how far the ball will roll.
As creative people , and music fans, as we are on this board, for example, how many works of genius would not have been created , without a tortured soul sitting alone smoking and thinking?

..."you are never alone with a Strand...."

They can spend millions of campaigning and adverts to stop people smoking and ban it from public places, but if someone like Robbie Williams comes on tv smoking and looking cool then that is going to undo a lot of the work done by the adverisers. Who are the kids going to listen to, Robbie or some middle-aged man in a suit!!

So many bars shut because of this ban,and now we know the man behind it was at best a dodgy geezer...or worst a war criminal...
...oddly enough many more smoke here in Asia,I even saw TV adverts for fags in Bali...

...knowing what we know now would we still have supported the ban?

That cigarettes are medically proven generators of cancer - of course, we would!?

It's why numerous countries and jurisdictions openly advertise this fact on packets.

Only those with a death wish would ignore the advice, coming from all angles - and confirmed by research from numerous prestigious worldwide sources.

Including the UN, WHO - and even some tobacco companies...
