Radiohead the band have decided to let people download their new LP direct from the Internet.And the good news is that they can choose how much to pay!
Be interesting to see how much they get.But even more interesting is that they have no record deal.Normally a bad thing,but perhaps they've realised that concerts and merchandising are the way forward?
When people download the LP they'll have to go to their website,and on it they'll be adverts for concert tickets,and paid items to order.A groundswell of generosity can mean good profits from those items.
It used to be concerts were there to promote LPs,well now it seems it's the opposite way round.
Kick in the eye for the monopolist labels,and another example of a British band showing some commonsense:)
Funny thing,but the BBC article is much more positive than the Guardian article JK mentioned in Tipsheet.

Radiohead would have to play wembley back to back for a month before there was a possibility of it not being a sell out. They are not doing this to sell concert tickets. They are relying on the goodwill of their fanbase and treating them with respect, i bet not too many true fans of their music pay any less than

What I like about it, is that the people that have paid little or nothing have actually branded themselves at the bottom of the fanbase itself.
That is so wonderfully apt, shamed and named for distain of valid product and not even looking at the true value of "just another download".

Obviously, this would seem like a callous comment to the genuinely impoverished, but I feel that this is not where the ironic finger of guilt was pointed.

An e-mail has just informed me that the digital version will be sent tomorrow.


I feel a review race coming on, this could be amusing publicly played out as well.
One assumes most reviewers will hear it at the same time as the fans.
