TOPIC: My Book
#23433
My Book 16 Years, 6 Months ago
I confess I've been writing...sometimes up until much too late. I am hoping it will be completed within the next six months (originally hoped it would be finished for Christmas). As real life has a habit of getting in the way I am behind schedule...and have tormented myself at night trying to get the last few chapters right.

It is set in the future. A supernatural love story. Cemeteries are electronic. No grey/black slate tombs. You enter a room...and your departed loved ones words, thoughts, views are etched for ever in a memory bank. You see them (virtually) as you remember them, and can even engage in conversation...you feel their warmth...their love.

I have written many poems about loss and love and death.

I wont give anymore away. But I'm pleased with it thus far. It should be finished by the Spring...and then of course follows the endless agony of rejection...but I'm up for some advice from JK and anyone else.

You could of course serialize it or put the whole book up for sale under your own steam and avoid any publisher Chrissy.

My advice Chrissy is - don't talk about it!

It always seems to jinx projects and you don't need the input of uninvolved opinions until after yours is completed.

Very good advice actually.
I was so buzzing about the offer for my book last week I nearly told everyone, then ,in finding that there is actually no equivalent publication, Mrs Mart quite correctly told me to hush which I have, and all anybody knows about it publicly is this brief mention.

I published my own fiction and poetry, and sold them through Amazon. Also delighted when orders came in from various bookshops. I hadn't promoted my work other than to have it indexed by Whittaker, so some level of success can be achieved without the major publishers being involved.

Like several others, I never talk about it or let anyone read it until it's finished.

Good feeling when it all comes together.

I read a very interesting article about a mountain climbing book becoming extremely popular with limited publicity due to the fact it was "similar/related" on Amazon to a best seller. People read the "if you enjoyed this try..." and did.

When you're registering a product at Amazon, are you able to specify "related" products?

I didn't register the books with Amazon. This is done automatically by Amazon when they receive lists of new releases. As publisher I submit details of the book, format, ISBN, subject, reading age, etc. to Whittakers, and they provide details to sellers.
