Saville back on iplayer 1 Week, 6 Days ago
www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0g3zjn9/w...eries-1-jimmy-savile

I have just noticed that the 2000 documentary "When Louis met Jimmy Saville" has now returned to iplayer, after been unavailable since the Saville allegations broke. Every other Louis Theroux documentary has been available for some time, but without the Saville programme until now. Surely now is the time to bring back the top of the pops episodes featuring Saville at the helm, as well as other "cancelled" people like Dave Lee-Travis, Gary Glitter, and Johnathan King.

What is the fascination with Louis Theroux?

I never found him groundbreaking or intriguing. He knows the people he interviews don't have a full deck.

He reminds of that neighbourhood kid, he will be friend until he has everything he wanted off you, then he just fucks off after taking the piss out off the situation.

One thing I like about his documentaries is that he reports on stories that no one else is covering, at least in the mainstream media. His documenataries on White Supremacists, scientologists, and the Tiger King are fascinating. As for the celebrity interviews, I do find him a bit insuating, such as when he implied that Saville and his friend Jimmy the Pill were more than just friends, as if two men in their 70s are having a rampant sexual affair.

Scientology documentaries are nothing new to me they go back to the 1990s and white racists documentaries earliest one's I can remember are from mid 1980s.

Will he interview Muslim Islamists and black racists or is that against his narrative.

I'm sure Savile was no stranger to lemon parties.

I like him. But I do know what you mean GM about his manipulation of guests.

He is taking the piss out of them very cleverly and subtly while making them think he is onside.

When I was younger I just found it funny, not so much now. Not sure why.

The Faux Naive approach no longer works in 2023.

Isn't the same as a bully? Banter/badinage is one thing but picking on the vulnerable is something different.

Louis, is a very left wing nut job. Will he ever go in hard on the Black Panthers, Muslims, or BLM like he does whites or Christians? He needs to interview both sides and not be soft about it, or is he too chicken?

Clearly a lot of the guests of his shows are on the spectrum and are literal minded. Again he is taking the clear advantage of them.

I never found him funny or witty, do enlighten me please, Wyot.

I thought Louis, was a dick towards Chris Eubank, I am not boxing fan. However I knew people who did the sport, and were in Eubank's social group or they were just mere acquaintances from their own spit and sawdust promotions.
They never had a bad word against Eubank and he was very much a ladies man in his youth.

Yes it is a form of bullying I agree.

I meant I used to laugh at the idiotic US apocalyptic racist gun owners etc rather than finding Theroux amusing.

Doesn't reflect well on a younger me, perhaps.

I think Nick Broomfield did the naivety well with his disarming one-man-band approach, but I don't remember him trying to make fools out of people.

I wasn't a fan of Nick Broomfield in his later docs, he was getting too big headed and smarmy.

However the 2 Aileen Wuornos docs are both compelling and chilling.

Eubank has already killed one person through careless driving and permanently disabled another(Nigel Benn) in the boxing ring. He must have stolen thousands of pounds worth of clothes (by his own admission) in his youth. This man is a menace. He shamelessly racks up parking fines and parks his stupid truck wherever he likes, because all he is concerned about is his own ego.
