TOPIC: Brown Shrimps
#250916
Brown Shrimps 4 Weeks, 1 Day ago
Rick Stein in an old clip on the odd Breakfast cooking show reveals how few fishermen are now getting brown shrimps - tiny but full of flavour and one of my favourite foods (in France called Crevettes Grises - grey shrimps). I eat them several times a week in France but here in the UK can only find them potted in butter - delicious on toast.

Rick Stein-best cookery presenter on TV there ever was. Never arrogant or patronising and very entertaining. Loved his India shows.

They sound interesting. I don't think I've ever eaten them. I like Rick Stein's food programmes. He comes across as pleasant and his recipes seem good. But I'm always surprised at how much salt he uses. They look like handfuls!

I've met Rick and he's delightful and I think the very best foodie in town.

He has an absolutely fab restaurant on the NSW coast.

Used to get them at Leigh Cockle Sheds (near Southend) but I’m not sure that the Privatisation Pollution in the Thames estuary hasn’t killed them off. Also not sure how many, if any, sheds still exist. Shame as they were a massive part of seaside Sunday life. And we used to scoop them up by the million in the 60s in shrimping nets on the south coast but they have definitely gone now, too.
