TOPIC: Homeless

Homeless 1 Week, 1 Day ago
One dies in the UK every 6 hours. In Brighton and Westminster (for some reason) - they're everywhere.

Councils are impotent for budgeting reasons, and charities have had to step into the breach - in a big way.

Even in Surrey (a bit affluent) soup kitchens/food banks are in most towns, with long queues soon after dawn.

Temperatures haven't helped; fuel subsidy decision either; or maybe the change of government....

And this is the result of Margaret Thatcher's damaging decision to allow council housing to be sold off at discounted prices which Blind Freddy knew would result in price rises eventually as speculation set in..and an edict councils could not replace that housing.

A bankrupt Britain after ww2 set on a course of massive house building and it was a success just as the them created NHS was. The economy boomed but now we have politician's like Thatcher who think they are running corner stores.

100% Hedda. There is a road near me where every single former council house is now up or has been up for private sale. Many bought up by landlords who inflate the rent. So a house that should be 125 a month via social housing, now has a ridiculous £825 a month rent.

I don't Thatcher could have imagined a booming population, there are about 70 million now but they are only the recorded numbers.
