Pankhurst*

The IoW is a beautiful island, famous for many things - not least Osborne House - where Queen Victoria died in January 1901.

And for Cowes Week, the oldest and most respected international sailing regatta in the world - with c5,000 competing daily.

Jokes and irony are wasted on you Barney.

Al & GM, I think you'll find it's not Parkhouse or Pankhurst but.....PARKHURST.

I find Green Man's association with the IOW to something like Alcatraz to be quite amusing. I'm not sure why it evokes such sentiments GM. I agree Al, it's a lovely place that I haven't been to in a long time. GM, I was actually on the IOW at Ryde in September 1982 and saw HMS Invincible returning up the Solent back from the Falklands conflict. Quite a good memory. While I was doing that all my class were back home probably doing some dull history lesson while I was watching it for real. In the days when your parents could take you out of school in term time and not get fined, although taking me out for a week just a week after school began after long summer holidays was pushing it a bit.

If you go out at night, you will be escorted from the UK mainland.I name it Parkhouse because it's more quaint.

I am sure school was invented so parents could produce more kids with peace and quiet.

I still don't get the benefit of school when you learn from life.

Having a formal education AND life experience is the best option.

Formal education is early indoctrination. It's what they want to teach not what they should be teaching.

Then again humans are only walking bags of water on a globe.

I was only listening to Pink Floyd last night, and Another Brick In The Wall. I never get sick of that track. It was great to be at school when that was a hit. "We don't need no education" got chanted a few times because of it. But we ignored the second line, which only now is seeming to take on significance, although it was being said aloud even in 1979 by Pink Floyd.

"We don't need no education, we don't need no thought control"

I have never stopped to think if any apsects of school were trying to indoctrinate me rather than educate. I am finding it hard to think of obvious examples of this though, although I did always think history was very selective and narrow. I've learnt far more about history myself as an adult reading things than I ever did at school, especially 20th century history. For some reason they fixated on the middle ages and Victorian England. At one point we watched a programme series about life in the years 1874 to 1887, one of the least interesting few years you could think to pick.

Very difficult to make such a broad assumption/assertion, without having experienced it.

Education is indoctrination! What then are faith, religion and the the ability to enjoy a healthy and prosperous life?

Oddly enough I heard it just the other night as well, on the radio while I was quite sleepy but awake at about 3pm.

I'd forgotten how good it is especially when you are a bit out of it.

So you think that education, sport, politics (you don't vote), the UK and religion are all rubbish? Only hiking is good....😊

Nature is there, when we were at school we were told to believe the the media. My daughter's were told that also from their tutors. They had a list of media outlets to believe and when they showed me it was the usual liberal outlet's even Vox, funded by George Soros. Indoctrination at it's finest, they poison young minds. Even school is a cult and sometimes a sex cult.

Why believe in some magic man in the sky who couldn't even save his son?

There are numerous religions Barney, which one is the true one that will save people.

Jehovah Witnesses only believe that a certain amount of people can only go to heaven. The rest go to hell.

Catholics have their version of the Bible which many of the books are not canon according to experts. There are 2 forms of Muslim. Hindus workship 33 gods and The Sumerians had 3000 gods.

Religion is like time, it's a human constuct.

Yes Green Man - I can see that your unique views on religion would make it very difficult for you to be a follower!
